The Brooklyn Nets now is a playoff team for sure. A title contender is a bit of a stretch, though.

The players still have to mesh together and J-Kidd still needs to prove himself as a coach. Plus, the Nets gave up maybe half the team just to sigh our vets. Who else is left on the bench? Jason Terry?

My head says a well-oiled Miami beast will easily take out the Nets as they are now. My heart says KG & Pierce still have a title run left in them. All the Nets need to do now is make the most out of their last playing years.

I was just over at the Brooklyn blog (http://www.netsdaily.com/2013/6/27/4472938/nets-acquire-garnett-pierce) absorbing some of the fan-joy those guys are experiencing right now.  Of course it still really hurts to lose the literal heart and soul of our team in The Captain.  The core of my being is definitely aching right now.

But seeing another fan base reveling in the joy of acquiring our battle-tested icons of basketball makes me feel considerably better.  PP & KG are absolutely aware of how much love we have for them.  And now they get to experience that in a brand new city with a brand-new fanbase.  As a Celtic fan, we should all be very proud of the fact that our greatest heroes will have the chance to go out with some glory and much deserved dignity.

In a couple years they'll both be back to have their jerseys hoisted to the rafters.  We didn't give them up forever.  They'll always be our heroes.  We're just letting Brooklyn borrow them for a little while so they can grow their legacies.  Thinking of it this way is how I was able to go to sleep last night.  And that's how I'll get through the weekend.  And the rest of the summer.  And Christmas. . . .

Yes, I'm thrilled! I live near the stadium.

the Nets will have some min salary vets tag along for the ride now like the C's and Heat have had in recent years.

I don't have a good idea of who they are but you know what I'm saying. Once you're in the picture, buy out guys and older stars will be inclined to join forces for depth. I think they already have Stackhouse as a depth min guy now.

I feel happy for KG and PP that they stick together, with Jet and have a semi-elite PG in Deron, a scoring big man in Brook and an above avg 2 guard in Johnson. For one or two years, they'll be FRISKY.

BTW. Plumblee could be really good for these guys off the pine! Blatche (if KG lets him stay) is good too. Great size. Just need another perimeter defender (Tony Allen???) and they will be in the mix.

the nets look VERY good this year adn I cant wait to watch them with KG and PP.  And yes I will be following those two.  I wish them all the success.  To some degree I'll be keeping an eye on doc too but not so much.

I hate seeing KG and Pierce go, but atleast next year while the Celts are busy tanking for Wiggins, I have a stopgap team to root whole heartedly for.

No, why would I take any solace on KG and Pierce playing for the Nets? One of the franchises I most hate in the NBA. Seeing them in a Nets jersey is going to suck big time.

They won't be a contender. Brooklyn is NOT a contender. Even with KG and Pierce.

I don't see them even getting out of the first round.

Same here. Even with Pierce and KG, Brooklyn is still the 5th best team in the East behind Miami, Chicago, Indiana and New York.

I beg to differ, I think the Nets might be better than the Knicks with this trade. Though I hate both teams, I hate the Knicks more

I think the standings would look more like this

Miami
Indiana
Chicago
Nets
Knicks
Hawks
?
8. Washington (idk, but for some reason, I think they make 8th seed.

Yeah, I'll be rooting for the Nets next year.  Love to see KG/Pierce get a title.  It will only increase their legacies'.

I can live with them being sent out. If a trade was made and got us cap space sooner (legit cap space), or picks, I would be ok with that.   Not sure I can get on board with Wallace's contract.  It ensures a rebuild of at least 2 to 3 years.  Which leads to Rondo being sent out.

This is probably going to turn me off from the C's for a while.  I'll still check in on them, and watch occasional games, but Ainge has once again made me loathe him beyond what words can express.

I have no stomach for what is going to ensue the next few years.  I'm officially disgusted.

I will be a Nets fan until Danny Ainge is fired!

I take solace in the fact that I live in Brooklyn and am a season ticket holder.

I'm glad that Pierce and KG will have a chance to contend together.

With that said, even if the Nets are clearly better than last year, I'm not that sold on their chances of truly contending or simply beating the Heat. An injury to KG or Pierce would basically cost them any chance and even if they stay healthy they will lack depth (and possibly chemistry but I think they will be OK in that regard).

Yes, plus they will get to battle the Knicks and get revenge for this year's playoffs.  And I think I'll eventually win my "Deron is better than Rondo" debate.  This year will prove me right.  That team is going to be really really good if they stay healthy.

I don't want Ray Allen to end up with more rings than Pierce and KG. Ray took the cowardly way out and then became a traitor with where he chose to go. Pierce and KG deserve another ring and I hope they get one next year at the expense of Ray and his ride on the coattails of the others down in Miami.
