Good thing we have like 8 picks in the next 4 years, with probably 3 or 4 of them being likely lottery picks .
I'm sorry...what?
3 or 4 of them. Can you elaborate?
Over the next 5 years, the C's will have 9 first round picks. (5 of their own, 1 from the Clips and 3 from the Nets)
I'm not sure what we have for second rounders but if we stink, they'll be high seconds and either give us a shot at a decent talent in the draft or be a good trade chip since the talent at that point is about the same as a late first rounder but the contracts aren't guaranteed.
The 5 picks for the C's figure to lottery picks unless we strike gold and get that superstar we're hoping for. I just don't see the current roster making the playoffs, at least not in 2014. Too many things would have to go 'right' for the C's to make the playoffs
- Healthy Rondo playing like an MVP
- Healthy Sully averaging a double-double
- 2 of AB/Lee/Crawford/Brooks finding their outside shots and averaging double digits in points.
- Olynyk stepping in and averaging better than 10/5 as a starter.
- one of Iverson or Melo stepping up as a competent backup C.
- Wallace playing like he did 3 years ago.
- Green playing like he did the second half of the season.
- Bass finding his shot again.
-->in short, too much has to go right for them to make the playoffs, even in the East.
The 2 later Nets picks could very well be lottery picks since KG and PP figure to be gone by then and the Nets will have a tough time adding talent with their salary issues (as they stand now). They have limited picks in which to improve with cheap talent so they're likely to go into decline after next year.
To add optimism, the picks from the Clips and Nets next year could also be lottery picks. Their teams are relying on key players that either have injury histories or are old players or both. Any health issues and their seasons could go south quickly. Clips are in the West so if CP3 or Blake go down for any length of time they could very well miss the playoffs. The Nets would probably need lengthy injuries to 3 of their proposed starters to miss the playoffs in the East but considering KG's and PP's age, that's not out of the realm of possibility.
