Wouldn't that be awesome. Just give him two years to see if he can get it in the right direction, I'm sure hill gladly take a mere 800K a year to start. But once he one his first ring he would demand 7 Million a year or threaten to bolt to L.A.

Seriously though Ainge has been good overall, but it's time for a change. Change you can believe in. Roy Hobbs! Keep the name too. I can see it now. Today in unprecedented news The Boston Celtics have just hired a top Blogger for the first time in NBA history. The world will never be the same.

Probably sounds silly, bit I'd honestly have more confidence in the aptitude of Roy, IP, KG's Knee, and others.

Why do you want to change Ainge? He's put this team in a perfect situation to rebuild/retool.

The only lamentation I have is that he didn't have the guts to run this unit one more time, but you have to tip you hat the same time to a GM who has the guts to pull the trade he just did... he's getting quite the bundle, in an era that you have to realize draft picks will become that much more valuable, mainly because of the new CBA and the salary cap restrictions and tax.

I agree with Roy most of the time.  But I don't believe this team had any better option than what we just did.  It's the smart move.  It's a big picture long-term deal for a team that didn't have nearly as many options as some folks like to imagine.

It's not that Ainge is bad. I Just want the future. Hobbs can bring in his top five advisers with him. But he's a lot younger. the future is Hobbs.

For the record Hobbs who would you have taken at 13 or 16.

First, this thread cracks me up, and I feel egotistical responding.

That said...  We had other moves.  Please don't get fooled into thinking this was the only option.

The Cavs were probably in a worse situation than we were when Lebron left.  What did they do?  They leveraged cap room / trade exceptions to rebuild their team.  They got an unprotected lottery pick -- Kyrie Irving -- for taking on something like $8 million extra in Baron Davis' salary.  They got a Memphis first rounder for taking on the contracts of Marreese Speights and guards Wayne Ellington (both decent players on reasonable contracts, by the way).

Those are two picks that the Cavs didn't have to surrender anybody of significance for, and who didn't saddle the team with terrible contracts.  Yet, some folks see it as a coup that we traded Pierce and KG, and took on a terrible $30 million contract, for three picks that will never be as good as the Cavs got?

Maybe we should hire Chris Grant.

Yeah but the Cavs also didn't have a ton of big and bad contracts on the team and thus had cap room.  With Bass, Green, and Lee on the team (in addition to Rondo and the young guys), Boston wasn't going to have cap space for anything of note for a couple of years anyway so taking on Wallace isn't really a big deal.  Now granted, we should have never been in that position to begin with, something I have been saying since last summer and doing so pretty loudly on this board, but that is a different issue.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Why are we lauding the Cavs for landing Kyrie? They still suck.

Who signed those players to the "big and bad" contracts, though?

The Cavs had their share of bad deals.  Antwan Jamison was making $15 million in 2012 (!!).  Daniel Gibson was signed to a long-term deal.  The Cavs were well over the salary cap, but they had a trade exception, which they put to work.

Danny had that option.  He chose the easier, albeit uglier and less effective, method.

Because they're still rebuilding?  They have a superstar to build around.  There's about a 0% chance that any of the draft picks we just acquired every come within 85% of Kyrie Irving's level.

I think there is a chance the C's could flip a guy like Humphries at the trade deadline for a late first for a team that needs help on the glass.  Something like Humph to GS for Biedrins and a 1st.

And what gives you the feeling that New Jersey is going to be a good team in 2017 and 2018?

I have no desire to rebuild via the draft. With our current roster and cap situation (which I prefer to having cap space) is to make trades that should put us in contention way quicker.

They have a superstar with Irving , who has never even made a all-star game yet, but we don't have one with Rondo who is a 3 time all-star , and voted the starter this year?  Not to mention he is a proven stud in the playoffs .

Guess we are screwed forever  ::)

No offense, but I have a hard time taking your eye rolling seriously when you don't know that Irving was an all-star last year (in his second season).
