he wants to be a lakers or heat fan...even he knows that this is a horrible trade...

Your son or you?

This was going to happen by next year, or the year after. At least we get two pick next year. Bundle them up for either a player or a higher pic.

If 2016 or 2018 pics are unprotected they could be very useful as well.

If you let PP and KG walk you just get one pic. You do realize the next three years the C's get two first round pics?

The rebuild was going to happen. You weren't going to get anything better than that trade. Yeah the players aren't anything to write home about, but those pics...Wow...That will get you some thing. Wallace could be used as either trade bait for a fringe team or salary dump. Or he finds his nitch this year behind Green and is a good, yet expensive back up 3.

It sucks, I'll miss those guys, I wish them the best, root for them to win one final ring, but Im also looking forward to the future and what could happen. Maybe not next season future, but the next few years could be interesting...

you don't have children...do you?

Actually I do. And if she was old enough to understand what was going on I would explain why this happened. Im not sure what you wanted from a trade, but this was pretty darn good, and the chances of better, and younger players were probably not going to happen. But the pics, oh the pics can make a huge difference and the possible 7 mill TE. Thats better than what Cleveland was giving for PP in the long run.

I don't know if this is a bad trade yet, Im leaning towards a good one in the long run. I do know Im not jumping ship because things are going a little south. Been threw the bads with this team before the goods. Makes the winner soooo much sweater than buying like Miami and Lakers.

i'm surprised to hear you have a child because then you would have obviously and instinctively known that children are bigger fans than adults and get heartbroken...most adults get that and some don't...

It's the fair-weather /bandwagon fan syndrome.

Very unfortunate.

Did you raise your son with the proper mixture of Celtics memorabilia, videos, game attendance, etc.?

If so, it could just be his rebelling phase.

We can only hope he comes to his senses.

If not, he'll probably only be a Heat fan until they stop winning championships or a Lakers fan until Kobe retires.  At that point, you can rub it in that he gave up on what I assume is his hometown Boston team.

Oh I get kids react to things differently then adults and tend to over react. But I would my self be talking to my daughter right now about what was going on. And not using her on a blog site to try to make DA and Owners "feel bad" or to try to make my own point about how bad I thought the trade was.

I'd also would have been talking to her over the last couple weeks if she was that big of a fan, that some thing like this was going to happen. Would she still be upset. Probably. But she wouldn't be jumping ship to the Lakers or Heat.

I think your son is sadly not too bright.

That's kinda out of line...

Hopefully dad could teach him some loyalty, though!

Anyone who wants to root for the Lakers or the Heat is probably not bright to begin with, so I'm just going with what the facts are telling me!

Little kids are front runners dude. It is what it is.

You guys take everything so serious lol.

Er, if I'm coming across like this is a life or death thing, I'm not. It's just one of those things--little kids like the people who are the best. Dad's or Mom's team is Dad's or Mom's team, you know? BUT LEBRON JAMES IS AWESOME!
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Here's a pair of things that happened to me this winter.

A seven year old kid from Miami told me that his favorite team was the Heat, and that LeBron James was his favorite player.

A nine year old kid from Vermont told me that he "hated the heat" because he was a Celtics fan.

Both of those things are frontrunning. One comes from highlight reels and marketing, the other echoes a regionally popular fan opinion. Neither of those kids are old enough to form opinions like that on their own (possibly the nine year old, but trust me, he wasn't), they're just attaching themselves to what's hot.

And that's cool. That's fine. I have no problem with it. My Dad's a Celtics fan. I'm a Celtics fan. If I end up with children (especially if they're raised outside of New England), I certainly have no criteria that my children support the same sports teams that I do.

Here is the real problem -- at least the way I see it. There really is no "Celtics Pride" anymore. There really is no loyalty anymore -- from either the players' or owners' side. Pro sports is nothing but another big business and that to me is why it sucks. As someone closing in on 60, I really do not enjoy having to go to my lineup card every year so I can figure out who is on my team. I am realistic and understand that things are never going to go back to the way they were, but I miss cheering for the same players year in and year out and watching them for their entire career. I know that this cannot happen anymore because it is a big business. So, Wyc and the other owners will take their big loss next year (because attendance will be woeful) and hope that Danny can draft right or package the picks and assets and again find lightning in a bottle the way he did with Ray and KG.

That said, I really have lost a lot of interest in all pro sports. I guess I am just a sentimental old fool, but pro sports interest me less and less every day.

The one thing I do not understand is how people seem to be able to come here and be thrilled and happy about what happened tonight and really show no sorrow at all for the fact that two of the best guys to ever play for this team will soon be gone. I guess I am just sentimental old fool.

couldn't have said it better...you either get this or you don't...if you don't get this...then...i truly feel sorry for you because it probably means you never truly knew and understood Celtic Pride...

Times change. In the Russell era, there wasn't a salary cap or even free agency.  Free agency started in the 70's, and a salary cap was instituted for the 84-85 season, after the Celtics had acquired their core in the 80's. The reality is that it just doesn't make sense anymore to keep older players around on huge contracts.  I didn't see Bird play; Pierce is the only Celtics great I've followed throughout his career. Believe me, I'm heartbroken to see him go.  But at the same time, if we nail a few of these extra draft picks we'll be in much better shape in a few years than  we would be if we let Pierce retire a Celtic.  To me, it's about the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.  Sorry if wanting what's best for the Celtics isn't true Celtic Pride.
