The thing is, right now we are in asset acquisition mode.  It's clear fromt he KG/Pierce package.  I'm an advocate for best available almost always anyways but especially in this mode.

You can't base your pick on how they will fit in with Bass.

I hear what you're saying, which is why I think Olynyk isn't the biggest loss in the world. He's still a useful young asset. However, I disagree with your statement that he's the best player available. I count three guys with higher ceilings; of course, they aren't a sure-thing like Olynyk and might not pan out. However, I count another guy who I can almost guarantee will have a better career than Olynyk, Sergey Karasev. He already has international experience, he's NBA ready, and is a tremendous offensive player. Like Olynyk, his weakness is defense, but his is no where near as bad, and he actually has potential to improve.

Also, keep in mind that we had to move up to get him even though he would likely still be there at #16. We traded away two future 2nd rounders to pay Olynyk more on his rookie contract.

He wasn't "terrible", really.  23.5 points, 9.5 rebounds.  His shooting wasn't great (43%), but it's hard to call him terrible.

Not sure what you were expecting with the 16 pick in a draft where Andrew Freaking Bennett went No. 1. This pick is not going to mean much in the way of rebuilding. No one can say with any certainty that Kelly will be a bust or the Russian guy won't be Skita. I had low expectations and wasn't surprised..

I think I'm the only guy who's excited about Olynyk.

Low post scoring, that's another threat to our offense. Midrange game, runs the floor well. Underrated tough (this guy played hockey). He's not the rim protector I understand, but he's very skilled.

Nah I like it too. We're talking about a 7 footer here with a lot of upside. We haven't had a good center in awhile. This could turn out well.
