We just got softer and less athletic - and duped in the process - while the freakiest athlete (Larkin) and one of the highest potential guys (Schroeder) were available.

Softer and less athletic.

"Olynyk averaged 17.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks over 26.4 minutes per game during his junior season at Gonzaga. But it's his advanced metrics that really raised eyebrows. According to Synergy Sports data, Olynyk averaged 1.131 points per play, ranking in the 95th percentile among all Division 1 players. A whopping 21.6 percent of his plays came in the post and he averaged 1.067 points per play (93rd percentile). For a Boston team that craves size and scoring ability, Olynyk appears to fit a need (regardless of how the roster looks next season). His 36.57 Player Efficiency Rating (PER) led the nation this past season. "

Sure sounds unskilled guys!  Definitely uncoordinated.

I wouldn't have traded up to get him ,   for sure,   thats dumb,   I think,  I could hqve lived with the pick at 16 I guess......but trade to move up ....meh ...

I would have taken Dieng  or Plum lee as our big pick........then again I picked Royce White

Danny and scouts must know more than we fans.....he is making the big bucks to make the calls.

I don't think the issue with Olynyk is him busting or not. His offense is versatile and that alone will keep him in the league. The problem is he plays no defense whatsoever, and his ceiling is very limited. He's going to be a backup big for his entire career, which is a very solid pick considering this year's weak draft.

HOWEVER, the issue is that with Sullinger and Bass already on the team, Olynyk's talents are a bit redundant, and our frontcourt looks especially feeble defensively especially once KG leaves. Additionally, the fact that we traded up in order to grab this guy is quite ludicrous. He was almost certainly going to be there for us at #16, and we pretty much traded two future 2nd rounders so we can pay Olynyk more on his rookie scale contract.

The thing is, right now we are in asset acquisition mode.  It's clear fromt he KG/Pierce package.  I'm an advocate for best available almost always anyways but especially in this mode.

You can't base your pick on how they will fit in with Bass.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
dallas just stole the 18th pick, got shane larkin. they got larkin and noguiera.

Noguiera is for the Hawks. And I see no reason to believe he's going to better than Olynyk...

Larkin is also 5'10. He's a risk regardless. I don't see the C's trading Rondo at this point anyway.

How about instead of complaining that the guys a bust we, idk wait and see how he pans out?
dude hes a bust, we knew it with jajuan and we knew it with fab melo

It's amazing that we call a late 1st round pick a bust. I mean, how many 20's-30's picks are not playing in the NBA anymore?

And Olynyk is not a bust, I don't know that yet because I haven't seen it yet. I am confident in his skills that he wont though.

I think people are just hating on him because he's slow and not as agile for the bigman that everybody wants.

And I say this again, this is just me, but Danny waited for Sullinger to drop, I'm pretty sure he could have waited for Olynyk to drop UNLESS Dallas is going to select him. Olynyk is probably the guy to begin with and maybe he did his job and found out who Dallas is picking and tried to move up to get him. It doesnt make sense to me that DA had the patience to wait for Sully and could not wait for Olynyk. But that's me.

Since this in now no longer a "future" pick, couldn't the C's demand the Nets send Plumlee, as well, in the rumored KG/Pierce deal?

thanks for preaching the truth snakehead

I swear some people on here just hate Ainge, the man is a draft day champ.
OK... then can we get rid of him right after the draft?  Although that will probably be too late....it is not the draft...it is the trades that kill me.

If the KG trade goes through they'll have 8 1st rounders in the next 4 years. Do people really think those 2nd rounders will make a difference?

Apparently Olynyk was like 6'1 and played point guard until he sprouted up to 6'10 in 11th grade.  Kid is probably a bit awkward getting use to his body.  Ainge knows what he's doing... i'm fine with it.

not only that, we moved up for this uncoordinated guy?

The Celtics send Dallas the 16th overall pick and two future second-rounders, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Does not help with our interior defense problem.

Does not help with our rebounding problem.

He would fit better on a win-now team, not a rebuilding squad.

We gave up two 2nds to move up 3 spots.

Shabazz was picked by Utah with the 14th pick next, and they probably had the biggest grin in the world.
Count me out.

Wow, I am starting to get a headache!!!!!!

What's wrong with Olynyk? We didn't need another wing type player. We needed a big!!!!

I hear what you're saying, which is why I think Olynyk isn't the biggest loss in the world. He's still a useful young asset. However, I disagree with your statement that he's the best player available. I count three guys with higher ceilings; of course, they aren't a sure-thing like Olynyk and might not pan out. However, I count another guy who I can almost guarantee will have a better career than Olynyk, Sergey Karasev. He already has international experience, he's NBA ready, and is a tremendous offensive player. Like Olynyk, his weakness is defense, but his is no where near as bad, and he actually has potential to improve.
