  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
What do you guys think of trade core of Rondo for Lillard?

Who'd be getting the better of the deal? Should we be adding assets or demanding them?

We are looking to rebuild, while Portland is trying to take a step forward. I think with Rondo, they could make the playoffs and make some noise. A Rondo/LaMarcus pick and roll would be one of the best in the league, along with athletic wings at the 2 and 3. Very potent team.

As for us, I think getting a young, 22 year old ROY would be a good step towards rebuilding. He'd be our centerpiece, and he's arguably a better centerpiece than Rondo. He can shoot, btw. His 3PM last season were 59th all time. Not bad at all for a rookie. He could go in a Tyreke Evans direction or a Stephen Curry direction. His efficiency is pretty bad, but I'm inclined to think that he'll improve. He's a hard working kid, though. Clutch as well. One word that would definitely define him is "poised".

At the very end, I think that...

Rondo + Bradley + Bass
for
Lillard + Matthews + Freeland + Leonard

would be a pretty good haul.

Not a fan of Lillard.  Very overrated.  Will not have a great career, IMO.  He shouldn't have even won ROY.

The other aspects are intriguing though.

Nonsense. Lillard's floor is a solid scoring point in a league that is increasingly valuing that type of player.

No way Portland does anything but laugh at that deal. They have Lillard on the best contract available to teams under the new CBA--the long term rookie deal.

I was thinking around the same thing, too, but this would be one of the better packages for him. I would take Lillard over Rondo for keeps, but I think Rondo is going to be the better player for a couple more years.

Maybe it could happen in the future, if we start seeing more of a Tyreke Evans regression from him.

Portland doesn't laugh at that deal. Its very good and if they want to keep Aldridge it makes sense.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think Rondo's injury stops Portland from considering this. For now.

How Lillard improves or fails to improve next season would probably be the determining factor as to whether Portland are willing to consider this option down the road.

It's the same reason there's little logic in swapping Rondo for Chris Paul--the difference in talent is outweighed by the financial obligations. Rondo's an injured player soon to be coming off a salary in which he was underpaid.

Bradley, while an outstanding defensive player, is an injury prone undersized SG.

Bass would be coming off the bench for Aldridge.

Portland needs a center, and they need bench depth. This trade delivers neither of those while giving up the best asset (Lillard) in the deal.
