FYI,

Danny was hired on May 9, 2003.  The draft was only a month after.  I kind of give him a pass on the Marcus Banks pick for that reason.  He didn't have a lot of time to scout and prepare and probably didn't have a team in place.  He still ended up picking Perk late in that draft, though... which made up for it.  Also, there wasn't like there were a ton of players better than Banks picked after him... David West was taken 5 picks later, but that's not fair.

Danny Ainge is one of the best GMs in the league without question.  We are very lucky to have him.  Dude is a master.

Think about it... the only Top 5 pick we ever got, we traded for Ray Allen... a key part of our title.  We then later brought in that guy we traded (Jeff Green) for the dude we took 27th in the 2003 draft.  Dude is a complete master.  A MASTER.

TP

Amen
I trust Danny Ainge

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Sullinger was an absolute binky. Olynyk was pretty good with #12.
In another thread I just posted that Sully was picked at #21 but is probably a top 5 player from his class. The top 5 from the 2012 draft?

Anthony Davis pick #1
Damian Lillard pick #2
Andre Drummond pick #9
Jared Sullinger pick #21
Bradley Beal pick#3
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Ainge turned Jiri Welsch into Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett.

And all people can do is complain.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we got Cleveland's 2007 1st for Jiri, which we ended up trading to PHX so we could get their 2006 first and draft Rondo.  So you could make the argument that we turned Jiri Welsch into Rajon Rondo.

At one point I had it all straight but I think we might have also actually owned the Rondo pick at one previous point and traded it away.

Yep.  He seems to have a habit of repeatedly trading his own picks, reacquiring them, and then trading them again, lol.  Didn't we get Minnesota's pick in the deal for Wally in exchange for our own pick that year, only to later trade back that pick for KG?  It's enough to make you dizzy, lol ;D.

Jeff Green could be viewed as falling into the same category.

You know, if KG did NOT hurt his knee...all of these threads and over-analyzing would probably never happen....We'd have 19 Banners at least.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.
