Quote
Wyc Grousbeck on @WEEI: "I would say a little disappointment. I'm where Danny was. We thought Doc would be here for length of his contract."

More Wyc on Rondo: "I don't think he had MUCH to do with this." Slightly differs from Ainge: "Rondo has nothing to do with any of this."

Wyc on Doc's move to the Clippers: "It was not our idea."

Wyc: "I don't think he owes us the next 3 years & he left in a way that got us some benefit, so I don't feel misused. I think we're even."

Wyc: "It finally got to the point where he said, 'Maybe it's time,' and we finally got to a point where we agreed with him."

Wyc: "I'm not going to get into any individual players. A lot of decisions will be made today or tomorrow."

Wyc: "If you hear Danny, he's pretty fired up about [rebuilding]. We've got a good thing going, and we're going to keep it going."

Wyc admitted this is "a bridge year."

Wyc: "It started w/Doc. It did not start w/us." Compared deal to old investors joke. Guy 1: "I got a dog for my wife." Guy 2: "Good trade."

Wyc & Danny have discussed a list of possible coaching candidates. Must've happened last night or this morning.

Wyc on Rondo: "I never nearly punched Doc, but I've been annoyed with Doc in the past." Cited Red punching an owner.

More Wyc on Doc: "I don't think he wanted to rebuild with us. I think he wanted to make his win-loss record better." OK, then.

More Wyc on Rondo: "I don't think he had MUCH to do with this." Slightly differs from Ainge: "Rondo has nothing to do with any of this."

Bottom line after that Wyc interview: C's believe Doc forced his way out of town & they're not happy about it. 1st-round pick softened blow.

I don't think it was ever a big secret that Wyc was going to take it more personally than DA.

Yeah this whole "mutual decision" and cs not wantig to pay doc was bs.

They signed him to that huge contract knowing full well that he would be coaching a rebuildig team at that price.  They probably thought it would have been sooner.

Doc instead pulled a dwight howard, carmelo anthony etc.

I'm curious to hear what Doc has to say in his press conference with the Clippers. There aren't a lot of ways to spin this positively, this is not the behavior I had expected from Doc.

They didn't want to pay him if he wanted out. I think that part is mutual, I do think that they would have liked for him to remained the C's coach through the rebuild.

I think they obviously wanted Doc, but once it became clear that he was more interested in the Clippers, they agreed to let him go.

It was the best thing to do because you don't need a coach who's heart isn't in it, especially during a rebuild. If Doc would have resumed as coach we'd probably go through this scenario again in summer of 2014. Win-Win outcome for the situation that was at hand.

Did you not see DA's presser?  He was clearly still reeling from it.  But he took the high and professional road.

Wyc IMO did as well, speaking a bit more candidly as a way of supporting his GM.

Never been a Rivers fan as a coach, glad he's gone, ....BUT...

I truly believe the "rationalization" that Rivers sensed that he was being ineffective here and it was best for all parties that he moved on.

Best decision that you have made for awhile, Rivers, Good-bye.

What's not said but underlying, in my opinion, is Doc wanted another go around with KG & PP, before a full rebuild and Danny and Wyc did not.  That was the disagreement that made it time for Doc to go.

Was Wyc's tone bitter?  It sounds that way a bit reading it.  Doc was more concerned with his win-loss record, huh?

I remember an article on WEEI that was wondering if the locker room was starting to tune Doc out back in January. A couple of times during the time outs some of the players wouldn't join the huddle. Maybe he wasn't getting to the younger players like he was with the vets.

He made him the highest paid coach and thought he was going to be their guy through the next era. Wyc clearly didn't get the memo that "Doc never intended to be here through the rebuild" that Doc's camp was selling to the papers.

I'm excited for the C's future and happy to see the optimism with Wyc, as he has alot to be optimistic about.  I'll miss KG and PP if they go but I gotta say after watching this schizophrenic season, I'll be happy to see some new blood.  At least now when we look like crap I can blame it on youth and hope that things can get better and people can grow and learn together instead of just sitting back and sighing and knowing no matter what pieces we plug in we still will be defaulting to mid 30 year old guys to carry us through 4 quarters >:(  Speaking of poor coaching.  I'm glad Doc is leaving.  I've always like his demeanor as the C's coach, but I think he's been exposed as a fraud a few times now during his tenure.  Nothing more evident than this last year.  His brutal stubborness held this team back so I'm glad we dont have to put up with that anymore.  It's laughable to hear people say how great of a coach he is when he's realy not coached much and has been known to heavily rely on his vets.  Be lookin forward to Thursday.
