I think another issue moving forward would be to have a 5 that can stretch the floor a bit.  With JG and JS as your 3/4 I think they would benefit a lot with a 5 that had some range.  It would open up the driving lanes for them and allow them to use their athleticism to get to the hole.
KG?

Exactly!  Who wouldn't want KG back for at least 1 more year.  Maybe J Smith can help reduce his minutes a bit, and give him a reason to think it would be fun to play with the C's for one more year.

If KG does stay, and we acquire Smith, I would like to see Danny bring back TA to be our 2.

A lineup of Rondo/Allen/Green/Smith/KG would arguably be the best defensive team in the league, especially with Bradley coming off the bench which would suit him more IMO. I also think Terry would be more of a vocal point offensively with a new coach. Maybe try and get rid of Lee for another wing or big. I like it.

I hear where you are coming from, but I think it would be cheaper to stick with what we've got, with about the same results. Go with Lee in the starting lineup, Bradley off the bench. Not as good as the defensive team you created, but maybe more offense?

Rondo/Lee/Green/Smith/KG
I actually think that would be a pretty good starting lineup. The bigger issue will be depth at the wing (we've got plenty of guards to come off the bench...).
Celtics fan for life.

Yeah, that would be an atrocious shooting team with Tony starting.

i dont understand the thinking of people around here.  Smith IS an upgrade over pierce especially with Rondo at the helm.

with already 7 pages of posts I didnt read what every one has to say so sorry if this is a repeat opinion.

A trade that brings in Josh Smith sticks this team right in the middle of the east. Not elite and not terrible. The Cs will win alot of games but never any that matter against Miami, Indy, or Chicago. The Cs would be in a battle for playoff position with the Nets and Knicks.

No knowing what the Cs would be giving up for Smith its hard to project the roster but lets just say its trade exception and picks. I will also assume that this is enough to keep KG happy for one year.

PG Rondo
SG AB
SF Green
Pf Smith
C  KG
Terry
Sully
Lee
Bass

With the exception of Sully this roster is built to play a fast paced game. As long as KG is healthy they will be a tough matchup for alot of teams. The problem is when KG isn't out there they are very undersized and lack floor spacing. I have high hopes for sully and I think he will show more range of offense this year but I don't think that he will be enough.

This team reminds me alot of the 2010-2011 76ers. That team was at there best with Holiday, Williams, IG, Young and Brand on the court. They gave teams trouble with there athleticism but still didn't do much in the playoffs.
Mavs

man i get so sick and tired of everytime this organization goes after a player or talks about bringing someone in they cut them off at the knees.  Bradley, Sullinger, Green all turned out pretty decent and half this site was goin crazy about how much they disliked these players.  My god, danny tries to give us some big time players and all some of you can do is sita round and belly ache about how mediocre we'll be.  We;re gettin younger and more talent, how can people not be excited. ::)

my guess Rondo is taking a page out of the CP3 guide to building a team

called. get guys "you" like to ball with

Josh Smith would make Rondo very happy

Making Rondo content ,  when a new coach is coming is a good thing.

I just pray all that small ball nonsense , none Celtic ball ,  is gone out the door with Rivers .

Get  Rondo some serious bigs to get the ball to.

with Smith. , Rondo ,  Sully,  and green,   that might be good enough to get KG to stay and play center .?

draft Dieng to help KG .......be interesting

i think stickin this team in the guaranteed middle, shooting more for the 4 seed, rather than shooting for the very end makes sense
if kg and smith are our ppl to build around, u need a couple shooters to come by. i don't think we're making a run at it this year. I think this is the test it out year. if we get between the 3-5 spots, i think we will get some ppl to help out and THEN make a run.

TP.

I don't understand it as well. Short term memories ? I guess fans don't remember the doom & gloom of the pre-Ainge days.

Each year Ainge is digging and digging to find the right personnel to make this team better.  He isn't set out for just making the playoffs like the Cavs, etc. He wants the whole enchilada and he's got big grapefruits enough to gamble and make something happen.

I love it personally.

we aren't building around a 37 yr old kg with bone spurs in both ankles . If KG stays it will only be for 1 more year(unless they make a deep playoff run).

I forget who mentioned it earlier in the thread , but Spurs have 18 mil in cap room , If we can trade KG to the Spurs for a Trade Exception and a pick , I think that's the way to go

Then you have

PG: Rondo   / Terry
SG: Bradley / Lee
SF: Green   /
PF: Smith   / Sully
 C: Dieng   / Melo

*Have a 10mil trade exception from KG to try and find a young center or SG ?

What's exciting about tying up 25% of our salary cap in a flawed player with a bad attitude?
