not a fan.  his total loss of control in Orlando with Dwight taking control from him turned me off of his as a decent coach.
I put that on ownership and Dwight's upcoming FA status.

I don't think Van Gundy handled it great, but he was also in an impossible position with Howard's constant wavering and tantrums.
Perhaps that's accurate, but it doesn't make him a good fit with Rondo's own wavering and tantrums.

what most of you guys said...we don't have enough 3 point shooters or a big post presence to run the Orlando system...

Bradley, Rondo and Courtney cannot

I only see Pierce (if he stays) and Terry being the 3 pt specialist. But we don't have any post presence anymore. KG is not what he used to be

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I like SVG, does anyone know if what he ran in Orlando was a function of who he had or if that is his system.

I think he's a great defensive coach, but we don't have the post presence or the 3 point shooters to run the Orlando system. If he is able to adapt his system to an uptempo style that befits Rondo, Bradley and Green then I think he would be the best option to coach.
I think his run in Orlando consisted of a lot of hand-waving and very little ability to get his players to do what he wanted. At least that was always my impression. I've always seen him as the Rex Ryan of the NBA, so to say -- talks big game and supposedly has great pedigree, but overall has very little to show for it.

Yeah, this about sums it up. I like the man personally but it doesn't appear like he commands the respect that is needed. Especially with bigger stars. They seem to do what he wanted for the most part but when push comes to shove, it always looked like they were treating SVG like he was a clown. His overacting will probably wear thin. Can't see him as a long term answer. But for a bridge coach, I guess I could enjoy it for a year or two until we got to be a serious contender again. I just don't see him taking us to the promise land.

Trade Lee, and get Korver ad JJ Redick

SVG is actually a good coach and I don't think he's going to D'Antoni us by running the last system he used professionally.  That Orlando system is actually though the reason that I like him - he saw what his personnel could do best and he went for it.  He coached the Wade/Odom team before that heavily overachieved and they had radically different personnel than the Dwight Magic team.  I would love someone like him.

Also Dwight running someone out of town is literally meaningless.

Yeah that's the only reason I'd give it pause.

I feel kile he would be good with some of our youngins right now though like Sully, Bradley, Green tho

I like SVG, does anyone know if what he ran in Orlando was a function of who he had or if that is his system.

His best-season in Miami was a 59-win season where the team took slightly less than the league-average number of three-point attempts.

That being said, he's a smart coach who understands the value of three-point shooting.  The Celtics shouldn't be near the bottom in three-point attempts.  Taking more threes would probably help the team's offensive problems.

Thought she only said Jeff Van Gundy.
