Trade Paul Pierce?!

Have we gone mad?!?

Are we not the Boston Celtics, one of the few professional sports teams with a heritage of endless HoF players who only played for Team Green?!?!

If you feel the Paul Pierce should retire a Celtics, as I do, please sign this petition consigned to Danny Ainge.

Let him know how the team's fans feel!

Thanks for helping keeping the Captain in his #34 jersey  ;D

He can always come back and sign a one-day contract and announce his retirement.

In the end, it's all about winning championships with the right pieces and not always about pride.

actually as important as it is to win a championship, I also think we should stay loyal to players who played their whole life here

He's next so get prepared.  Ainge wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't trade him.  I'd be pretty excited myself if Ainge could grab a first rounder this year or next for him.

The better trade is the one with the Cavs, where we'd get that large trade exception + 2 second rounders.  That's a great haul for the captain.

The thing you may want to consider is that Pierce might want to leave himself.

But anyways, I'm fine with riding out with KG and Pierce.  They are both still good players, neither is overpaid.  I know they aren't young assets, but I haven't even liked any of the rumored trade returns for either player.  Both mean a lot to the franchise.

THIS!!

Paul has said he doesn't want to rebuild again. He also said he wanted to test out free agency. Dunno why people are still so sentimental over Paul.

I hope all this pride and sentimentality can strap on a pair of Nike's and go out and score 20 points. Otherwise, why do we keep bringing it up?

I get it guys, it's going to flat out stink when Paul and Kevin are moved, but you build a franchise with your brain, not with your heart.

See I wouldn't go that far, why wouldn't you be sentimental?  He is one of the best players to ever wear the uniform.

But, he might want to see if he can get a title with another team.  I'd totally get that.

There's a reason basically no players stay with one team these days.  It wouldn't tarnish Pierce, he will always be a Celtic.

Isn't it true Paul can opt out before June 30th and allow the C's to offer him a cheaper deal to help the team? Why can't it be a 2 way street? He can show loyalty too.

Paul has gotten PAID by the C's. If he ripped up the $15M deal for next year and did a 2 year $6M per year deal, he's welcome to retire a Celtic and contribute to the team. As is, he's pushing us into lux tax and we have the potential to get a couple picks for him. Right now, the picks look better.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Maybe he wants to be traded?

I doubt he would want to be part of a rebuilding process - which is certainly where we are headed.

Something that most fans don't get I think is that you can't just take any old salary.

First Pierce isn't even overpaid at his current salary, he is one of the better SF's in the league.

Second the players union won't just let a player take any discount.  Nevermind that the players don't usually want to anyways, but LeBron couldn't, even if he wanted to, just take a small salary and say "I'll make up the rest in endorsements and win a bunch of rings".   I'm not really sure how it works internally with the union, but that's the gist of how that works.  If you take a discount, you jeopardize other player's salaries because you are messing with the market price.

Paul Pierce will go down as one of the greatest Celtics of all time. Still if he wants to win another ring like Ray Allen did let him go. I just want something in return that would equal in value what he is worth. I feel like we can do better than 2 second round picks. Also, I feel like sending him to a team like the Cavs is wrong on so many levels! At least send him to a team that is a title contender.

why not? because he's not being sentimental. he openly said he'd like to retire for the celtics but doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild and he's going to test out free agency.

he's never said he really wanted to be a celtic come hell or high water. i can guarantee you paul wants out.

Another reason to hate pro sports. Very few players remain in one city for their entire career.
