Amico covers the Cavs and often has trade rumors (and is criticized on some corners for being largely inaccurate).  So take with grain of salt.

As for the rumors involving the Cavs, the Boston Celtics and forward Paul Pierce, sources confirmed the Cavs have indeed expressed an interest -- but the talks have yet to reach the level of seriousness conveyed by some reports.

• Following the departure of coach Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Celtics are looking to gut the roster and shed salary, making Pierce and forward Kevin Garnett (and possibly even point guard Rajon Rondo) available. Word is, however, that Pierce wants to play for a contender, making the Cavs hesitant to be overly aggressive in his pursuit.

• Still, some sources indicated the Celtics have until the 13th pick to decide whether to accept the Cavs’ offer for Pierce. If not, those sources said, the Cavs will pull the trigger on the potential deal with the Mavericks.

• Another source added the Cavs’ reported offer of both second-rounders for Pierce “isn’t the entire truth.”

also, here was what he said about the Cavs and Mavs

Quote
• Numerous teams, including the Cavs, continue to talk with the Dallas Mavericks about the 13th pick. The Mavs are looking to get out of the first round and shed salary -- more specifically, the salary belonging to veteran small forward Shawn Marion.

• The Cavs continue to debate whether they want to take on money in any potential deal with Dallas. Both of the Cavs’ second-round picks (Nos. 31 and 33 overall) are in play in the talks, sources said.

if all this is true, wouldn't it make sense for the Cavs, Mavs, and Celtics to work on a 3 way trade that makes everyone happy?

Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. does isn't the entire truth mean? Would we be taking back a player from them? would we include another player to shed even more salary? That is the vaguest response possible.

I think for this to happen the Mavericks would need to be interested in Pierce as a player, and not as a guy they can waive to shed salary.  Otherwise they're better off dealing with the Cavs directly (since the Cavs can just take on Marion without sending back any salary).

I could see something like Pierce and 13 to Cleveland, 19 and Marion to Boston, and 31 and 33 to Dallas.

So could I.  Additional, the Celtics could pick up Alonzo Gee as part of the deal to back up Green and provide some height on defense against tall SG.

So we are giving up the higher pick, trading Pierce and not getting the full TPE? I think that's a terrible deal for us. I'd much rather have the two seconds.

That's a solid idea, assuming the money works (looks like it does).  Hinges on Pierce being willing to play for the Cavs (rather than a contender), though.

Yeah, and I think the Mavs might be interested, but only after they're pretty sure they aren't getting Paul or Howard.  Hard to see a case where that's assured prior to the draft.

I still think Pierce might very well threaten to retire if traded to a place like Cleveland, which might be enough to squash the deal if they're unwilling to call his bluff or worried about a disgruntled Pierce screwing up their locker room.

Boston does not trade a pick in that trade.

Yeah.  I imagine most teams have given up on Chris Paul following the Doc deal, but Howard is still in play.

Pierce would probably need convincing to join a team other than the Clippers, unless KG were already on said team.  I think he could be easily convinced to join up with Dirk.

I doubt Pierce is better than Plan B or Plan C from the Mavs' perspective, though.  I imagine they'd prefer to sink resources into guys like Howard, Iguodala, and Smith.  Younger guys who can more consistently carry a load and have energy to complement Dirk, who like Pierce is an older finesse scorer who rarely makes an impact on the game with his athleticism anymore.

I'm confused where you say "Pierce would need to be convinced..." PP doesn't have a no trade clause. Unfortunately it's not him that can decide where he goes.

True, but if you're giving up considerable resources to get a guy, you probably want to know that he actually is interested in playing for you and won't be a locker room problem or threaten to retire or whatever, right?

If Pierce were traded to the Bobcats, I doubt he'd even bother going to Charlotte, for example.

If Pierce goes to the Cavs, I would want Varajeo and Gee back in return, which I think is fair.

If KG stays, he and Varajeo would be great together.

For me, two 2nd round draft picks are meaningless.

The TE is definitely of value, but it's not guaranteed the Celts would get to use it within the year.
