Since Brian Shaw left the NBA for Italy rather than play in Boston, then signed a contract and STILL refused to play, should he be permanently banned from the franchise?

Brian Shaw was drafted by the C's, refused to sign, went to Italy, then signed a contract, refused to play it, was sued by the franchise and ordered by a court to play for the Celtics, then traded to Orlando to be come part of Shaw/Shaq, then went to LA and won titles as a freakin' Laker.

I mean, why should this be the guy to coach?

No offense man, but your premise is ridiculous. Seriously people.

If Brian Shaw is the right man for the job, why should something 20 years ago be a factor. Let it go!

I don't want Shaw as coach and I don't think he will get the job. Rondo ain't listening to no never was player who doesn't have coaching experience.

A little before my time so I didn't know. What was his beef?

So, the next coach is dependent on whether Rondo gets along with him?
Wow!

Rondo has no say on who we hire. None at all. Heck rondo might even be traded himself.

That's the Celtics forums for you. Also Doc is the only reason we attract free agents.

Hey I was rooting for the lakers at one point too. Should I be black balled forever for liking the celtics as my team. Side note I was more of a Kobe fan than a laker fan.

Yes, it's practically unheard of in the nba,. Teams generally pick their coaches with no input at all from their star players.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If the Shaw situation had ended after he refused to play, I may agree, but he ended up playing a couple of seasons for the Celtics thereafter. Even though he never lived up to his potential with the Celtics, he did mend his relationship before being traded for Sherm Douglas [and his infamous floater!!].

His Lakers career might be questioned, but only because it's possible that all he really knows is the triangle.  Shaq is a humongous part of Lakers lore and he played for the Cs. This is not unheard of.

Exactly. Pierce was a Laker fan growing up but he dealt with it as a professional when he was drafted by the Celtics. Shaw clearly couldn't rein in his emotions and childhood rooting interests.

Also, his failure to win a HC job seems to stem from continuing personality issues. This guy has a history of publicly criticizing organizations in the same industry where he's trying to get a job. That doesn't fly. Thank them for the opportunity, show some class, and move on. It's not like he has some gold-plated body of work where he can call his own shots.
