The Celtics have a big problem with Rondo, this is not new, Ray Allen also had problems with the boy, in the U.S. squad something happened. Rondo is a very difficult player, great player, but I have to see how he will respond without Pierce and KG.

Rondo has a great respect for Pierce and KG, I repeat, this is a problem for the future of the Celtics. I understand perfectly Doc Rivers, he did not want to rebuild around Rondo.

And there you have it. Now we know why there were multiple failed attempts to move Rondo.

OMG. So lemme get this straight. Rondo tells Rivers to go eff himself during a team meeting and people still take Rondo's side? I agree that Rivers probably could have handled it better but doesnt that say more about how uncoachable Rondo is? Get this guy out of here. He's a punk. And the funny part is people want to pair this guy up with Josh Smith who is an equally volatile punk. That's a recipe for disaster.

Trade Rondo. Draft someone like Schroeder. Start fresh. Rondo clearly isnt leading this team to anything.

Rondo's already led the team to something. Start with all the way to game 7 of the ECF last year. Saying he won't lead the team anywhere is like saying he'll never be an all-star. Again, I'd like to know when the incident happened, some of the Rondo/Doc clashes have been reported well after they happened like they were recent events. And I think that people are looking at this in a vacuum, I doubt that dropping an f-bomb during a meeting is the worst thing that ever happens in the nba. This blog has had tons of posts in favor of trades for players that have gotten coaches fired. If you don't want players that have done worse than swear at a coach in a meeting you're going to be a perennial bottom feeder.

Wow. An ECF. Which they ultimately lost to the Heat. There was a point in time where this franchise used to measure success with championships. I guess people will accept getting to ECF's now as a success.

This isnt the first incident that's come out about Rondo's behavior with coaches/teammates. I think he's a punk. I dont think he's the best person to lead this team with KG/Pierce (seemingly) out the door. The point is he doesnt seem to have any respect for his coach. And Doc doesnt really want any part of him and I dont blame him. I dont buy the competetive BS. If coach tells you that you made a mistake, you dont tell them eff you to their face.

I dont think building a team around Rondo is the way to go. He's too volatile and he's not a 1st tier player (ala Lebron/Durant) to put up with it. I think making Rondo the focal point of the team is a mistake. That's my 2 cents.

Agreed.

Which is why I advocate running it back, drafting a PG - moving up, if need be - and moving Rondo.

You wouldn't be able to pull me away from threads on this blog if that happened.

Rondo is immature, and doesn't know half as much about basketball as he thinks he does.  At the same time, a coach can't go fighting his players.  He needs to bench him, or fine him, or suspend him.  You can't fight, though.

No surprise at all...If Rondo is immature, he will destroy the team step-by-step, or year-by-year. Ray is gone not because of money issues, but because of Rondo. No Doc has the same issue. Remember Terry and Lee what they told after Rondo go injured? They told that without Rondo they feel more free to find themselves in the team play. So, if I am DA, I have to trade Rondo ASAP before the team will be destroyed completely.

I'd say that you advocate moving Rondo for the same reason you kept saying that the Celt's offense didn't need Rondo (right before their abysmal offensive performance against the Knicks). You *still* probably don't understand why they did better in 2012 (albeit losing to the Heat in 7).

No way that Rondo is good enough or established enough where he should in any way call out Doc Rivers or any other coach.  Sorry.  Next he will be demanding what coach they hire or who they trade like Chris Paul?

The coach is the coach and the player is the player.  There can be only very few limited exceptions to this.  For example, Larry Bird late in his career could get away with telling a coach to run a certain set or put a certain player in.  He would never have f-bombed a coach in front of the team though (and shouldn't under any circumstance).

If I was GM or Owner, Rondo would straighten up or get shipped out.  I don't know that all this is true of course but if true (and it probably isn't completely true), that is how I feel.

The Celtics can carry on without Rondo.

If you think that players have to be much better or much more established than Rondo to clash with coaches then your view of what goes on in the league is wildly unrealistic. Not to mention he's a 4 time all-star who's led his teams n multiple deep playoff runs, it's not like he's Brandon Bass or Avery Bradley.
I find your reply a little condesending but I also think you missed my point.  It would even be unacceptable for Larry Bird to f-bomb his coach in front of other players.  In my view, if this is all true, Rondo is way out of line.

I'd just assume that in a league where players have coaches fired and openly clash with coaches (even through the press) that this isn't the worst thing that goes on in a team meeting. I also think it's likely that the fact that Rondo didn't get into any noticeable trouble (or even spend an extra minute on the bench) and the fact that the story never got out probably points to it not being a huge deal.

Again, if true, it may have gone like this.  Doc:  "Rondo, you are dribbling too much.  I want you to move the ball.  Cut out the hero pass #@$%".  Rondo:  "F-you coach, I know better than you what is best for the team.  It is not my fault no one can get open".

That's the fantasy of about half of celticsblog. That Darth Rondo has an iron-fisted control of the team and the offense, which Doc and KG and PP aren't capable of wresting away from him. In fact KG wanted to explore free agency last summer but Rondo refused to let him, telling him he's going to run the pick and pop with Rondo until further notice.

A coach and a player get heated with each other?

Rondo would be missing more than a Season if he tangled with Doc. Being a players Coach Doc has hurt his career tucking in the boys every nite.

If she's talking about this incident, at least she cleared it up. Sadly I don't see many people noticing her tweet and I see them keeping this story alive.

If this did happen, it's interesting how this is coming out now and especially after he spoke about Doc in a positive way.
Also wouldn't be have gotten in trouble with the league for getting in an altercation with Doc?

A source close to the Celtics tells Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops.com that Rondo droopped an F-bomb on Rivers in the locker room during a team meeting, and Rivers went after Rondo and tried to fight him before the fracas was broken up.
