Wow. An ECF. Which they ultimately lost to the Heat.

He had a triple double and the bench scored 2pts in that game 7.
K.G. had 7 boards Rondo had 10
Pierce had 19 pts Rondo had 22
Celtics had 19 assists Rondo had 14 of them.

The ENTIRE CELTICS TEAM had 15 FT attempts
LEBRON JAMES had 17 by himself.

Rondo is NOT why they lost and conspiracy theorists about Stern wanting the Heat to win...they gotta love this game for an example. Rondo got fouled several times and went to the line 1 time.

I think this is also a bit of a generational thing. I would bet most of the posters on here that are saying it isn't a big deal are younger. There is a clear lack of respect for authority with the upcoming generations in every facet of life. (man I sounded like an old geezer there!) Just look at our schools. NEVER would you have students act the way that they do to teachers 25-30 years ago. We have to face the fact that as a country we no longer require kids to respect authority and this type of thing is the result. So here you have this kid who has been a superstar since he was in grade school being told he is the greatest thing ever and allowed to act and say whatever he wants, being a punk in the locker room. Surprise Surprise!

I think that Doc should have clearly reacted differently and suspended him, but it appears we aren't really worrying about Doc any more. What matters is what it says about  Rondo's character. Could you ever imagine Tim Duncan doing this to a coach? A leader of a team doesn't act that way to his coach and undermine his authority. This move is based on selfish "don't disrespect me" attitude. He can do it in private if he wants, but this shows you Rondo will never be a leader. His game is flawed enough to think you could possibly build a championship team around him, but this clinches it for me. Send him packing I've had enough of our "sometimes effort" PG.

It's not a big deal because we don't even know if the story is remotely true. It's enough going on right now as is.

No way that Rondo is good enough or established enough where he should in any way call out Doc Rivers or any other coach.  Sorry.  Next he will be demanding what coach they hire or who they trade like Chris Paul?

The coach is the coach and the player is the player.  There can be only very few limited exceptions to this.  For example, Larry Bird late in his career could get away with telling a coach to run a certain set or put a certain player in.  He would never have f-bombed a coach in front of the team though (and shouldn't under any circumstance).

If I was GM or Owner, Rondo would straighten up or get shipped out.  I don't know that all this is true of course but if true (and it probably isn't completely true), that is how I feel.

The Celtics can carry on without Rondo.

If you think that players have to be much better or much more established than Rondo to clash with coaches then your view of what goes on in the league is wildly unrealistic. Not to mention he's a 4 time all-star who's led his teams n multiple deep playoff runs, it's not like he's Brandon Bass or Avery Bradley.
I find your reply a little condesending but I also think you missed my point.  It would even be unacceptable for Larry Bird to f-bomb his coach in front of other players.  In my view, if this is all true, Rondo is way out of line.

Again, if true, it may have gone like this.  Doc:  "Rondo, you are dribbling too much.  I want you to move the ball.  Cut out the hero pass #@$%".  Rondo:  "F-you coach, I know better than you what is best for the team.  It is not my fault no one can get open".

Sorry, I just do not feel that is OK, even if Doc was wrong about he was asking Rondo to do or what he was chewing him out for.  It is on Rondo to find a way to deal with it if the coach is on him.

If you think clashing with a coach means a player will never be a leader then you know absolutely nothing about the nba. Fill your team with players who have never done anything that bad, you'll win at least 20-25 games a season.

This is one of the guys who never played beyond high school and grade school.   Some of it may be generational but men do not allow themself to be ordered around like kids or like a guy who can pull their scholarship.  Pitino tried treating guys like it college  that and it did not work in the pros.   A man isn't going to take it.   Respect is a two way street, people do not deserve it soley for merit.

I am in my mid 40's.   I always did what my coaches told me and I played hurt too.  But I could snap every once in a while with a comment.  If your busting your butt out there with a double double or the like and your coach picks on you and you have done your part when your a man that get's too you regardless of generation.

Larry called his team mates a bunch of wussies once.   He called people out.   Some of you guys are clueless.   I get this doesn't happen given your grade school experience.   But once men are men tempers can flare.  Here is Larry during a huddle folks.

Quote
Larry said, “Why don’t you just give me the ball and tell everybody else to get the hell out of the way?”

So I said, “Larry you play, and I’ll coach.”

And he said, “All right.”

So I said, “Dennis, you take it out and you get it to Kevin. Kevin you get it to Larry and everybody else get the hell out of the way.”

That is communication. Before the timeout was over, he leaves the huddle, and I said to myself, where is he going.

http://www.nba.com/features/birds_coaches.html

Yep, even Bird told coaches what to do sometimes.   These guys are uber competitive.  F-bombs are not as bad as they used to be, people use them more casuaully.

No one is right all the time, not even the coach.

Rondo, has a better basketball IQ than Doc.   I have seen them both play and Rondo is a better player with more ability than Doc.   Doc was a hard work guy with mediocre athletic ability.   I do not think he will be in the league today if he played.

First of all in all his seasons he has never been a leader, even when asked to take on that role. Second of all, my comment and opinion is that if you are in the position that we are now and are trying to decide how to blow things up and get us back to legitimate contenders, that involves deciding what to do with Rondo. If Rondo were a complete player with no big holes in his game then maybe you overlook the fact that he has no respect for authority. Considering he does however have some major flaws that allow other teams to limit the teams offensive effectiveness when it matters, I think it is better to send him packing for assets that can allow us to truly rebuild. Rondo's attitude is not what you want in a rebuilding situation. That is a surefire way to become the Washington Wizards.

I graduated from High School in 1987, and I can assure you that back then, plenty of kids treated plenty of teachers with all kinds of disrespect.

This has nothing to do with the truth or lack thereof of Chris Sheridan's Rondo rumor.  I just hate these "kids today" type statements.  I don't buy it.  Older people have been saying these types of things about younger people since, well, I guess since there have been older people and younger people.

Welcome to the TD Kindergarten.

Anybody else wondering why this story comes out now?
NBA players aren´t angels, we will simply have to accept that.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

You've got 2 years on me. For the life of me I can not possibly believe you truly don't see the huge increase of lack of respect for authority in the last generation. Either you just magically lived in the worst possible school district in the country, or you're fooling yourself. Maybe I was just blessed growing up in a military household along with military friends and neighbors where respect wasn't an option.

I am roughly the same age as both of you, and I agree with EJPLAYA that kids and parents both don't have the same respect for authority that they used to.  My mom is a teacher and it has been obvious to her from a educational stand point that parents discipline their kids much less now, and complain to the school administration much more even when their kids are completely in the wrong....BUT

I don't think that has anything to do with Rondo and Doc.  Who knows if this story is true or not, but it doesn't have anything to do with respect for authority, that is just how Rondo is as a person and a bball player.  He is cocky and he thinks he is smarter thank the coaches.  I don't doubt that sometimes he is, but not all the time.

I think the report might be bogus anyways.  Funny that it is coming up now?  Why wasn't this reported at the time?  I think Doc does care about Rondo, and likes coaching him.  He has praised Rondo over and over again.  Can Rondo be a headache, sure.  But I doubt Doc is leaving the C's because of some cuss out arguement with Rondo.  Doc is a stronger coach / person that that is giving him credit for.

With all due respect, guys

The high school that I went to was considered to be in a decent, suburban district.

By the way, I doubt you meant "respect wasn't an option."  That was probably a slip on your part.

If you have the attitude that kids are punks with no respect for their elders, there's a good chance that you'll get exactly the attitude that you are looking for.

Things get heated.  I can understand why tensions would run high.

Rondo is immature, and doesn't know half as much about basketball as he thinks he does.  At the same time, a coach can't go fighting his players.  He needs to bench him, or fine him, or suspend him.  You can't fight, though.

(I tend not to find Chris Sheridan to be all that reliable recently, so maybe a grain of salt is in order.)

It would be interesting to know exactly when this happened. Also, if the guy who (supposedly) has an intense dislike for you regularly claims you know more about basketball than any player he's ever been around it's a pretty safe bet that "doesn't know half as much about basketball as he thinks he does" isn't the case.

Now, I would have paid to see this fight.
