A source close to the Celtics tells Chris Sheridan of SheridanHoops.com that Rondo droopped an F-bomb on Rivers in the locker room during a team meeting, and Rivers went after Rondo and tried to fight him before the fracas was broken up.

If I had to choose who I wanted to keep, it'd be Rondo by a million. Go away Doc. Rondo for MVP.

Things get heated.  I can understand why tensions would run high.

Rondo is immature, and doesn't know half as much about basketball as he thinks he does.  At the same time, a coach can't go fighting his players.  He needs to bench him, or fine him, or suspend him.  You can't fight, though.

(I tend not to find Chris Sheridan to be all that reliable recently, so maybe a grain of salt is in order.)

If player-coaches were still allowed, I'd fire Doc and make Rondo my player-coach. Rondo is so much more important to this team than some replaceable coach who wants to fight his players.

Rondo might be immature, but look at LeBron. Rajon is perfectly fine.

It would be interesting to know exactly when this happened. Also, if the guy who (supposedly) has an intense dislike for you regularly claims you know more about basketball than any player he's ever been around it's a pretty safe bet that "doesn't know half as much about basketball as he thinks he does" isn't the case.

I would take Rondo as well but I certainly wouldn't put enough stock into him being our player coach. Love the guy. Not that much.

No way that Rondo is good enough or established enough where he should in any way call out Doc Rivers or any other coach.  Sorry.  Next he will be demanding what coach they hire or who they trade like Chris Paul?

The coach is the coach and the player is the player.  There can be only very few limited exceptions to this.  For example, Larry Bird late in his career could get away with telling a coach to run a certain set or put a certain player in.  He would never have f-bombed a coach in front of the team though (and shouldn't under any circumstance).

If I was GM or Owner, Rondo would straighten up or get shipped out.  I don't know that all this is true of course but if true (and it probably isn't completely true), that is how I feel.

The Celtics can carry on without Rondo.

I would say several grains of salt are in order. I think the Doc/Rondo relationship probably is pretty complex, and little tidbits like this are probably 0.1% of all the things, positive and negative, that are part of that relationship.

It also seems like right now, people are looking for any tidbits, real and imagined, that support their case for why Doc should or should not want to leave, or why he is or isn't a bad guy.

I'm not giving this or anything else I hear in the current environment a lot of weight. Who knows what the motives are of the "source" in any of these cases.

OMG. So lemme get this straight. Rondo tells Rivers to go eff himself during a team meeting and people still take Rondo's side? I agree that Rivers probably could have handled it better but doesnt that say more about how uncoachable Rondo is? Get this guy out of here. He's a punk. And the funny part is people want to pair this guy up with Josh Smith who is an equally volatile punk. That's a recipe for disaster.

Trade Rondo. Draft someone like Schroeder. Start fresh. Rondo clearly isnt leading this team to anything.

I'd need first hand info to believe the rumor.   Stories get blown out of proportion , inflated each time they are repeated. To increase the drama from one person to next.

I imagine there has been friction , but without first hand comment from those there or involved I wouldn'5 get too emotional over any of the rumors.

If you think that players have to be much better or much more established than Rondo to clash with coaches then your view of what goes on in the league is wildly unrealistic. Not to mention he's a 4 time all-star who's led his teams n multiple deep playoff runs, it's not like he's Brandon Bass or Avery Bradley.

You guys need top relax. Rondo is super competitive, granted he should have shown some restraint but these type of things happen all the time and are quickly forgotten about. I'm sure him and Doc talked after that. Rondo has always had praise for Doc.

The Celtics have a big problem with Rondo, this is not new, Ray Allen also had problems with the boy, in the U.S. squad something happened. Rondo is a very difficult player, great player, but I have to see how he will respond without Pierce and KG.

Rondo has a great respect for Pierce and KG, I repeat, this is a problem for the future of the Celtics. I understand perfectly Doc Rivers, he did not want to rebuild around Rondo.

Sounds made up.

And if it was real, I am not quite sure how this makes Rondo look good :-[

as much as I don't like Doc because I just don't see him as a real Celtic, you just cannot f-bomb the coach. That is not appropriate. If Rondo did that, DA should really be looking at shipping him out.
