After all of this, I honestly just hope that DA pulls the plug on the whole thing.  Doc can go to broadcasting.   KG can do whatever he wants.  Unless the clippers are willing to part with 2 1st round picks why even deal with them.  Is 1 low 1st round pick enough compensation for Doc?  I don't think so.

Celtics just cancelled press conference w/o explanation. Clipper source says they'll up offer.

does that mean two 1st rd picks ?

Wasn't their last offer Nothing for Doc?
Yeah, this is about Doc only. Going from nothing to anything is "upping the offer"...it could be a 2nd round pick, it could be some cash, it could be a 1st round pick.

Assuming it's a 1st round pick, Danny just needs to ask Doc, "you want to come back while we rebuild, qo broadcast, or work for that bunch of clowns out in LA?" I'd guess Doc has the weekend to decide.

Frankly, Danny also needs to ask KG if he really wants to leave Boston, Doc or no Doc, and if he does...does *he* want to end up working for the LA Clowns? I'm not KG, but I'd rather go many other teams than the Clippers, or really just stay in Boston and work with Melo and Deng for another year while playing short minutes.

As per Heisler on Twitter (whom I do'nt trust much), the Clips offer a protected 1st rounder in 2015. He doesn't say for what, but based on what I see here, this seems to be for Doc only?

Oops…I was told #Clippers offering #Celtics '2015 No. 1 protected.' Could be top 3 protected or top 10. Doesn't have to be lottery-protected

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
All bargaining strategy.
All 'sources' at this point are trying to salvage the integrity of this deal in the eyes of the nba community. Covering all bases so Stern & other teams cant use specific rumors or speculation against the management of each franchise.

Stern isnt stopping this trade, he just wants it done quietly and properly so he doesnt get called out like he did with the Lakers Chris Paul saga.
I really wouldnt worry.
Doc and KG will be Clippers soon. We'll get an 'upped ante' offer that has a 2nd pick added, or they'll 'add' deandre jordan to the deal because now theyre saying he was supposedly never part of the original deal.
All diplomatic garbage to keep the Comrade Stern happy.
Tanksville here we come!
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Interesting strategy, to have it done quietly by making noise about it (because that's what Stern did, pretty much).

I just want this to be done with. Seems like this has dragged on forever
At this point its clearly a deliberate strategy by the Clippers.
Boston has clearly played a role in this as well.

Really? I don't know about that. Can't be making CP3 super excited. If you try to "drag something out", there's a chance that it won't happen at all. Versus just getting the thing done.
Celtics fan for life.

"there's a chance that it won't happen at all."  that just might be the clippers strategy if you are reading the reports that the whole thing is just a charade to make CP3 think that they were trying to do what he wanted.

.@BA_Turner spoke w/ Chris Paul today. Paul had no comment on Doc Rivers-KG deal. Paul just smiled & shook his head.

Whatever that's suppose to mean.

Sten's stance is baffling considering that they deiscussed a deal with KG and Joradan earlier at the trade deadline.  It's not like the KG part of the deal was added for the Doc part of the deal.
That's an excellent point.  One gets the impression that once Stern makes up his mind about something, any facts that effectively counter his decision won't even be considered, even though what you said probably counters his assertion better than anything else I've seen.  From a logical perspective, that'd be checkmate... not that Stern cares.
Here is my issue with the deal.  So we can't circumvent the salary cap but splitting a deal in two.  Okay.  But we also can't technically trade a coach, so we can't make it into one deal.

So what the hell?!?

It just looks like there is no way around this, since it is pretty much a catch 22.

2015 Protected 1st, huh?  That offer is an insult to Doc, Danny *and* Chris Paul.

Danny should just reschedule the press conference for 5 pm this afternoon and say whatever he was going to say this morning.

Given that only two coaches in history have fetched compensation, I'm not quite sure where the insult is.

Yes clearly the Celtics could have just agreed to the Clippers first offer, which via the leaks was also the same as their last offer.
