Clips were refusing to offer any compensation for Doc, league sources said. Threat of presser may have changed that.

If that's true, Ainge should walk away from the deal entirely.  Boston had Doc under a no-compete clause.  It's totally unreasonable to ask Ainge to waive that in return for nothing.

Man, if people ever wonder why the Clips have been so terrible for so long, there's no better example than this.  They're right on the doorstep of being a title contender and do this garbage.

Sten's stance is baffling considering that they deiscussed a deal with KG and Joradan earlier at the trade deadline.  It's not like the KG part of the deal was added for the Doc part of the deal.
That's an excellent point.  One gets the impression that once Stern makes up his mind about something, any facts that effectively counter his decision won't even be considered, even though what you said probably counters his assertion better than anything else I've seen.  From a logical perspective, that'd be checkmate... not that Stern cares.

I don't think so.

Stern could easily state it the other way: the fact that the previous deal didn't happen when Doc was not part of it, but is acceptable to both parties now with Doc involved, actually proves that Doc is a critical part of the KG deal.

Not saying I believe that, but Stern can certainly make the argument.
Hard to really say whether that'd hold water or not without knowing the exact specifics of what was proposed and turned down last year.  I think you have to weigh what is *really* fair compensation to let Doc out of his contract.  To be honest, two firsts seems excessive.  One seems reasonable.  So, to me, if the package they turned down was less than or equal to KG for DJ + 1 pick, but suddenly that's acceptable with the inclusion of Doc, then Stern could plausibly say that.  But if what we were asking for was more than just DJ plus one first and they turned it down, then Stern's argument falls apart, because then he couldn't say that it was Doc's inclusion that is making this happen.  I mean, you have to factor in that Doc is probably worth a first (there is precedent.)

But still, I don't know what the exact offer was that they turned down last year.

Yeah, if the previous deal had Bledsoe and the Clips rejected it, and the current deal doesn't include Bledsoe, I think that helps.

But it's murky. And Stern just needs to come up with a story that somewhat loosely fits his interpretation of events.
Too true, Johnny CC's post rang so true to me that I jumped the gun in saying 'checkmate'.  It would all depend on what the rejected package was back then.

IMO the CLippers have to get this done now.  CP has wanted it and if they don't get the deal done they risk losing him.  THe way they've handled this is a joke and the reason why they are the Clippers...

Again if i am Danny i am forcing the issue here. If they want Paul Pierce and KG we want more.

I have a question about the snowball effect of what occurs in the Clippers' pursuit of Doc, KG and the Truth.

Since these transactions need to happen separately, and the Clips are going after Doc first, is there a chance Doc goes to LA and Pierce and KG remain in Boston?

If the Clips give up a first round pick for Doc and KG and Pierce do not follow Doc to LA, would Chris Paul pursue free agency?

If Chris Paul, KG and Pierce are not in LA, how high will that draft pick end up being?

At this point its clearly a deliberate strategy by the Clippers.

I dont understand. Why would upping the offer matter if this thing is just gonna get shut down by Stern because of the "illegal" nature of the deal.

Unless Stern stopped the deal because he thought the Celtics were getting screwed?! Which is impossible since he hates us.

My take on it is that it might be that the Clippers are upping their offer on Doc just to get that deal done because he seems like the main attraction for them (and CP3).

If they can push that deal through first then if Stern vetoes the KG and DJ trade at least they have the most important part of the deal from their perspective done.

The problem is that they were offerring nothing, so now they've probably upgraded that to their 2013 or 2015 first. Danny most certainly wants more from them if the KG deal most likely will get shot down, so we are back to a stare down.

I think the only thing that is going to get this deal moving is CP3. Hopefully he is as tired of this bullEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. as the rest of us and starts hounding the FO to do whatever it takes.

Boston has clearly played a role in this as well.
