to simply view this trade in terms of DeAndre Jordan versus Kevin Garnett. Here's why:

1. Jordan doesn't have to be Kevin Garnett. In fact I dont' want him to be Kevin Garnett - at all. Someone else will eventually play the "KG" role, in their own style.

2. I want Jordan to be Jordan+. A big, banging physical presence on defense, block shots and swallow boards to ignite a fast break. That's it - I want him to be a bigger, more athletic Kendrick Perkins.

You can't replace a KG. What you can do is try to build a great "team".

3. Jordan and Sully have the potential to be a 'serious load" in the paint for us. Sully is mean as hell down there and Jordan has real athleticism and speed around the rim.

4. What if Pierce also goes and this allows to somehow trade for Josh Smith? What if Josh Smith really wants to be in Boston with Rondo?

5. What if we then draft a player like Dieng or Olynik?

6. Sign a real sharp shooter off guard?

7. Sign a decent back up vet point

All of a sudden we're one of the youngest, biggest, toughest frontline teams with a top three point and snipers at the 2.

Jordan / Dieng / Melo
Josh Smith / Sully / Shav
Jeff Green / Player
E Gordon for Pierce? / Bradley / Lee
Rondo / Vet point / TWill

That is a very, very good team.

Jordan just has to be a piece of the puzzle - he's nto replacing KG.

This assumes that Josh Smith will land in Boston - but if that happens -

Rondo on the break with Josh Smith and Jeff Green on the wings and a sniper at the two spot - I'm interested.

Yes and there has to be - that's what rebuilding is, you are trying to build something, which is the definition of "What if".

What if if we get the 2nd pick and draft kevin Durant?
What if we don't?
What if we trade for Ray Allen, will that bring KG?
What if it doesn't?
What if we hope Kendrick Perkins turns into a starting center and he deos?
What if he doesn't?
What if Rondo can lead us to a championship?
What if he can't?
What if PJ Brown makes a difference?
What if he doesn't?

My God, KG is "going to retire" that is like money in the bank.

We have to get on with it and if you told me we would begin the "getting on with phase" with the following:

Jordan / Melo
Sullinger / Bass
Jeff Green /Pierce (unless traded)
Bradley / lee
Rondo / TWill
* Three first round picks, including the 16th in this year's draft
* Cap space when Pierce comes off, whether he's traded or stays...

On that team only Jordan, Green and Rondo make anyth significant salary and that totals roughly $33.5 million

Rebuilding is all about "What if? That's what's exciting about it, we have to do it and I'm ready for it even though KG is one of my all time favorite Celts.

Doc - whatever, there are other great coaches - he does not have a monopoly on greatness.

Welcome to rebuilding!  We'll be here a while.

What if KG doesn't retire? He claims he bleeds green.

I think many people like this trade because they assume he will. There's still a lot of money on the table.

I'm not totally agains't trading him, I just think you should be able to get more than an overpriced Jorden for him.

As for Doc, I don't really care. I don't recall him being anything special before the "big 3" and have never really thought he was a very good devolper of young player. As a matter of fact, if the Celtics are rebuilding I think they could do much better for a coach.

I hate Josh Smith's game.  Just hate it.  Stay as far away from Josh Smith as possible.

Yeah, because averaging 17.5 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.8 BPG, 1.2 SPG constitutes to terrible game.

His shot selection is very poor, he never capitalizes on mismatches and not to mention he's also an bad FT%. We can't have two FT missers in our front line.

He'll be also due making Max money. Jeff Green is capable of getting those numbers (outside of blocks and steals) and will be making a lot less.

If we ever get some cap room, just use it to solidify the bench or use it along with the young assets to acquire an All Star player not named Josh Smith.

Josh Smith and DJ on the frontline would be pretty sick defensively, but also pretty inept offensively.

counting on a lot from a guy coming off back surgery who has proven himself in the NBA and a center that can only score within 1 foot of the rim

I think the OP is expecting way too much from a DeAndre Jordan. He will be an 8 point 8 rebound a game guy that gets fouled a lot because he cannot make FTs.

Josh Smith is not coming to Boston unless is to play the Celtics

You're both right, but think of the exciting and often hilarious trade and draft scenarios we'll be entertained with as our Cs sinks into the nether regions!

If Boston has a roster of:

Rondo
Bradley
Jordan
Green
Sully

Bench:

Bass
Lee
Terry
Melo
Crawford
Williams
Draft pick

That team wins about 30 games total...no outside scoring and a horrible bench.
