We all have to start somewhere.. I was the biggest bandwagon fan ever back in 1986.  I watched the finals with my Dad and was amazed by Bird and the C's...Sadly it was pretty much all downhill (with some ups and downs) all the way to 2008. Here's to hoping that the newbies don't have to wait that long again..However the ride was fun...I enjoyed watching a full year in 87 of amazing basketball to end at the hand of our arch rivals...By then I was hooked on the C's...The battles we used to have with the BAD BOYS... watching promising youngs guys like Reggie Lewis...Loving the the great Dino Radja.....Hoping Eric Montross was our savior.good times...

Thanks for the backstory, Lebowski (and where is the money?).  It's tough to follow a team that is not local to you, especially if you didn't grow up with internet or cable tv.  I used to love to grab a paper just to see the box scores.  Glad to have you around.

Thanks fresh, happy to be here (it's down there somewhere, let me take another look).

You're right, it was incredibly tough, but still kinda fun to have to really work for updates. We're really spoiled now with league pass, podcasts, blogs etc, etc.

been a fan since early/mid 70's cowens, hondo jojo RUNNING
prior to bird it was UGLY
bird era, some of the best basketball i've ever seen
saw the ml carr throwing game thing was embarrassed
pitino  :-X (threw up in mouth)
some great runs with pierce and walker
mediocracy
a kid in preseason wowing me like only bird has (but not to that extent)
the kg, ray allen, pierce trio
championship!
and finally injured team going into the playoffs (sadly more than 1 year) and giving it their all

if you only watch the team when they are winning then you are not a celtic fan

Yeah I have a feeling a lot of the younger fans who became hooked on the C's in 2007-08 will be saying the same thing in about 15-20 years ...only replace Bird with KG/Pierce and Detroit with the Cavs/Heat led Lebron teams. The parallels are pretty similar imo.

Either way, I don't think it really matters when or how you became a fan. If you love the Celtics more than anything, cool...if you just watch them casually, fine. Doesn't affect me at all.

Watch the games, but watch them a little differently: get ready to cheer for young guys stepping up in big moments, making plays you didn't think they were capable of, and pulling off team wins against the odds. In fact, make "against the odds" wins your new measure of success.

When I started watching Celtics games with my dad, Walter McCarty was my favorite player (because of how much Tommy loved him). A Celtics vs. Pacers game was to me then what games against Miami are now. The miracle game against NJ in the 2002 playoffs was the most exciting thing I'd ever seen. There wasn't a whole lot to cheer for over the next few years, but I still loved our team. We have some real dud players, but we also had guy who played hard and wanted to win despite the team's limitations.

You just have to embrace the lower-tier rivalries, get exciting about the development of young players, and cheer your heart out for well-executed plays. I love this team and will always find a reason to get excited about watching them play.

Yeah, welcome to CB. Your SN is most certainly appreciated. The Dude does indeed mind. I got my Dudeism certificate a few weeks back LOL - true story,  man.

Enjoy your stay. Go Celts.

So what you're telling us is that you're a bangwagon fan and can't put up with our team being devoid of talent...A true fan stays with the team through the thick and thin. We're not a filthy collection of Miami Heat fans here.

Prepare to watch some sloppy basketball, and start rooting for losses and ping pong balls.

The glory days have returned.
You know man... honestly it's going to sting at first.  But at least we're heading in a direction.  I hated the feeling of being a sitting duck franchise and I've had that feeling since Shaq went down... this feeling like we we had ankle weights on and were slowly sinking to the bottom of the sea with no floaty to save us.  Our window opened and closed... we'd absolutely be better next season if we kept KG, Doc and Pierce... but it's not going to result in a title.  So we might as well bottom out so we can jump off ocean floor and start swimming back up to the surface.

Bottoming out was inevitable.  However, I'm a big believer that when a championship is at least within striking distance, you owe it to your plans and fan base to maximize that opportunity.

Sure, our odds of winning a title were slim, and were probably reliant on a Lebron injury.  However, I would still take those odds over the chances of our rebuilding efforts yielding a title contender within the next 5 years or so.

I agree completely with your logic but disagree about our chances with the current team. We would have needed not only a Lebron injury but:

(a) A return to form for Rondo
(b) A relatively healthy KG come playoff time
(c) Sully to be productive after his injury
(d) Pierce to be healthy
(e) one of Terry/Lee to have a very good year
(f) to sign a quality 10-15 mpg big guy
(g) Jeff Green to continue his good play

Now, even if all that happens we might have what, a 10% chance?

With all that going for us and the Heat out of the way we'd have been at least 50-50 to win the east, I'd say a 20-25% of winning the title. Which is probably better than the Spurs went into the playoffs with.

I just can't help myself.  I'm already starting to convince myself that Deandre Jordan is going to be the defensive anchor for the next dynasty.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I was a Ray Allen Fan before i became a celtic fan, but i learned to love the celtics. If the trade happens, i would be loosing the last remnants of the reasons why i am a Celtic fan... Danny should do something about this badly.

bandwagon fans are the worst.

Not this again. ::)

I'm a no08y  fan.  Will miss kg and pierce but after watchin them struggle all this year and see their bonehead coach run them into the ground, I'm lookin to a fresh start.  As a 25 year psu fan I can empathize because I miss joepa not bein around but was happy to see a change despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding it.  The legacy will always be there and here's a chance to gather fondness for a new star like maybe rondo or green.   I think it also helps that they aren't retiring.  If they all end up in la I will continue to enjoy watching them play.
