Honestly our situation will be better than it was before 08

Delonte West/Marcus Banks/Telfair
Ricky Davis/Wally
Tony Allen/Veal
Mark Blount/Raef LaFrentz/Waltah

Then the justin reeds, tom guigolta whatever his name was

ratiff, olawakandi

we were just terrible

Jeff Green, Rondo, Jordan

actually as I'm typing this...i'm getting a bit discouraged...i'm for some reason getting the impression that Jeff Green is basically Kawhi Leonard when Leonard is more talented

Green needs to make the jump and learn some offense

We do have some bad contracts: Bass, terry, lee

Awe that's adorable.  You two became Celtic fans in 2007?  How sweet.

You have to start somewhere right? This was the spark that led me to the Celtics and the glory of the franchise.. we all have our individual reasons for being a Celtic fan, but that doesn't mean a specific reason is superior than the other

Prepare to watch some sloppy basketball, and start rooting for losses and ping pong balls.

The glory days have returned.

The days where we will once again have a top 10 pick in a deep draft and pick 'Toine (who I love and the reason why I'm a Celtics fan, since everyone is putting it out) over Steve Nash or Kobe Bryant. Yep. I'm on board.

Joking aside, I'm very optimistic.

I haven't seen a Rondo run a team full of athleticism and can run the floor. We will have that with DeAndre Jordan. He may be bad at a lot of things but flying down the court is not one of them, and it could be a weapon. Jeff Green is blossoming in our eyes and who knows, maybe CelticConcourse may be right, he turns into top 5 SF, learns how to drive left.

I also can't imagine that Courtney Lee will have a very disappointing season yet again. If we get the Lee we are expecting when he was announced he'll come in, he'll be very helpful.

Those 4 as your core on a so-called rebuilding process isn't so bad. You have young assets in Bradley, Sullinger and solid role players in Bass along with draft picks to flip to get an All Star level to go along with it. Add to the fact that it frees up some cap space, with smart signings (this is the red flag but I still trust Ainge) we can be very well contending in a year or two.

Whatever happens though, we need a 2014 1st round pick. That draft is LOADED and we need to be in it.

edit. Also, get Brandon Rush, INSTANT contenders!

I actually don't hate the rebuilding period because I enjoy prospect-watching.  I have no expectations for the team, therefore there's no real disappointment when they lose many games.  I can just chill and watch the young guys develop (which, with an intelligent FO, patient coach, and a little luck, is rewarding in its own right).  As long as they bust their asses every night, I don't mind watching a team rebuild for a couple of years.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if it's Paul Pierce or Terrence Williams to me.  I'm still going to cheer every big play, ooh every highlight and groan at every screwup.

Understand that for people who don't live in the US and thus never had a connection with the city the NBA team is playing in, what happens is fans follow players and learns to love the team afterwards. But it's because of the player that they followed the franchise, the team comes in second. That's just how it is for non-US based fans. So it's a legit question for those people, it's not because we "found a bandwagon" to ride with.

First of all, who cares when they became fans. If it's 2007 then so what, you loved the celtics longer and maybe more intensely but we're all part of the same "family" so whatever right ?

And second staticcc is right; overseas fans like me (from belgium) have no real reason to choose a team so they often start with players and fall in love with teams later. In my case it was a little different, was playing basketball for a couple of years (after a childhood filled with soccer) and was really loving it. Had a good friend who i played with and he followed the nba since he was little.

He's a laker fan but when i asked him which team i should check out in the nba he suggested the celtics as a team i'd like. I liked the look of the team so that was good already and then i started to watch some games and i quickly fell in love with mostly Big Al cause this was 2006. Yeah i fell in love with this team during our worst year (though ofcourse can't complain cause things QUICKLY got a whole lot better).

Anyway anyway you got to here, supporting the celtics and talking 'bout your favorite team, I for one am glad you're here.

ACL-Tear All-Stars! ;D

If we don't get the Clips 2014 pick in this trade (if it happens) I'll be a very sad panda.

Brandon Rush will dunk on anyone's faces, ACL tear or not.

That's actually what I was thinking. Better be the 2014 first rounder.

Having DeAndre means we can move the #16 to get some picks next year and who knows, maybe we might not have a top 15 pick but with two first, some young assets, maybe just maybe we can flip that to a top 5, and now we're talking Jabari Parker, Marcus Smart, Mitch McGary, Julius Randle.

These two franchises have been DOING IT RIGHT since their inception.

Two be fair, the Spurs had been around for 20+ years without even an appearance in the finals until Duncan arrived.  The Spurs benefited from getting lucky in the lotto.

Was a Reggie Miller fan as a kid, though then I already had some very Celtic fan like symptoms like hating the Lakers and the Knicks and everything they stand for. When Reggie retired ring-less, I took my search for the next best place for clutch 3s,  a Cs roster with Ray and Paul on it. So when they went nuts on Kobe and co. in 08 I was sold. Hoping whoever takes over them (crosses fingers its Rondo) can keep the fire going. That is what matters

Pretty excited to start talking about the next set of players like Milt Palacio and Shammond Williams who show flashes of decent play for 2 games and we anoint them the next great Boston Celtic.

Only for them to disappear to make way for the next crop of great young Celtic upstarts like Sebastian Telfair, Ryan Gomes, and Gerald Green who will no doubt be the future of the team and lead us to banner 18.

Only for them to all get traded to some team for a legit player and the real championship talk begins.

Hey all, I've lurked on the forum for a long time, but this thread has made me finally take the jump to register.

As an overseas C's fan (I'm English), I disagree that we are all players-over-teams fans and that, "That's just how it is for non-US based fans".

I fell in love with the game in the mid-90s when Channel 4 here in the UK started showing one game a week ( I seem to recall that the coverage only started post All-Star for some reason) and two recap/nba scene shows presented by Scoop Jackson. That was it. I had to sustain my love of basketball with that tiny amount of coverage and the occasional copy of SLAM that I could get my grubby little hands on. (It got worse when C4 lost the rights and a rival station bought them, only to decide upon showing nothing but an awful 30-min highlight show).

As a long-term fan of my local football/soccer team (Southend Utd - "who?" - our highlight is beating a Ronaldo & Rooney-led Man Utd in the League Cup in 06. Our current incarnation is mired in the bottom tier of the league system, struggling to pay players and stay in business :'() I know that a huge part of the enjoyment in following sports comes from the partizan nature of fandom. I needed an NBA team. I chose the Celtics.

I'd been fortunate to have visited Boston a few years earlier - and have been able to visit it and New England many times since - and I was enticed by the history of the organisation, and (as a slightly masochistic sports fan) the story of a once great giant of the sport now fallen upon hard times. Players and staff come and go but an organisation is constant...mostly (RIP Sonics)... and should be the basis of any sporting 'love affair'. Sometimes the replacement of expectation with the allure of hope can help to refresh a fanbase that has become somewhat spoilt, stale, and entitled, and there is a grim satisfaction in showing loyalty through the bad times in the hope that it all comes together again - as it did in 08.

Things have changed over the last few years. I can now watch as many games as I want since League Pass came to the UK - luckily it coincided with our return to relevance and prominence - and I still plan to watch every Celtics game in the future. As much as it hurts like hell to see KG and Paul leave (Doc I'm unsure about after recent events), we should all be grateful that we even got to have them on our team. The time is right to move on and, unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I trust that Danny is gonna to do his level best to re-engineer a team that can compete for a title, I just hope it's within my lifetime  ;D.

In a slightly perverse way I'm kinda looking forward to rooting for a Rondo/AB/JG/Sully/Jordan core. Even if that team is gonna struggle to score 60+ some nights. If hope is a drug then I plan to take as much as I can to get through the next few years. ;D

To those that doubt they will continue to follow the team: no-one will hold it against you, you just didn't really wanna be here in the first place.

Thanks for the backstory, Lebowski (and where is the money?).  It's tough to follow a team that is not local to you, especially if you didn't grow up with internet or cable tv.  I used to love to grab a paper just to see the box scores.  Glad to have you around.

Just curious, but how long have you lived out west for? Did you ever live near Boston? If not, when and why did you become a Celts fan? Was there a local team that you chose the Celts over?

Don't worry, there's still room on the Heat bandwagon  :P

To me, being a sports fan is like being married: "for better or for worse", you just have to take the good with the bad. So, I'm taking the good with the bad and I'm rooting for the laundry.

Go Celtics!

Here is a tip, when we field bad teams you live off our heritage which only LA can close too.   I still watch the games and love the team, there is always something to root for and each game is a fresh chance.
