I don't understand why we're helping the Clippers stay relevant by giving them KG and Doc, and in the process Pierce and CP3 ?

And the same time getting raped, no Bledsoe,no cap relief by taking either Lee or Terry. And no Expiring from their part.

Their draft picks will be in the late 20's so those are useless.

I'm sorry to see that cash was a priority in the C's negotiations--especially given how much they were about to save by shipping out Doc.  Far better if it were only actual team assets they were after.

Trying to squeeze Don Sterling for cash doesn't sound like a smart thing.

Presuming, of course, that this story is accurate.

where did you see the celts were trying to squeeze Sterling for money?

The story, though we don't know it's true, says the C's were trying to get the Clips to fork over $3M in cash, since that's the added salary that DJ would get once his trade bonus kicked in.

Yeah, I think this is a bit of a misunderstanding, or twisting of the facts.

The C's were looking at an option, that would give them cap savings, by sending Lee or Terry for an expiring contract, but that wasn't so much a money issue for the clippers, that was about cap flexibility for a follow-up trade.

The other money issues were out of the C's hands.  The Clippers are obliged to pay Jordan's trade kicker, based on the new CBA.  There was not choice about that.

The other money issue was about Doc's contract.  There is reason to believe that Sterling got cold feet about paying $35 million to a coach.  But again, that wasn't coming from the C's side.

I don't know whether the story that this thread is based on is accurate or not, but I quote:

"The Celtics wanted the Clippers to pay Jordan’s $3 million trade kicker. The Clippers, well, you guessed it."

In translation, that means the C's were also looking for $3M in cash out of the deal.

They are not useless.  I'd rather have two future firsts than Bledsoe, so I think Ainge should have gone from asking for Bledsoe and a first to asking for three firsts.

Whoever wrote that quote is wrong (and it is more than $3 million).  The Clippers have no option of who gets to pay the trade kicker.  It's written into the CBA that any contract signed under the new CBA (which Jordan's was), the trade kicker is paid by the team trading them, not the team recieving them.  The C's aren't getting cash.  The Clippers are paying Jordan the bonus they put into his contract.

Do you mean Jordan's trade kicker? If you do, then the trading team is supposed to pick that up, not the team getting him.

I think Danny's 3 offers, if they have been accurately presented, were all about equal to each other. Jordan had to be in there to match KG's salary, beyond that, Danny wanted prospects (Bledsoe), picks, and cap relief. His offers reflected that:

1. Jordan, Bledsoe, 1 pick
2. Jordan, 2 picks
3. Jordan, Butler, cap relief (Terry & Lee)

I also don't think Danny backed down and that's why the Clippers kept leaking stories and "walked away." They couldn't get him to knuckle under to them. I know the Clippers said they wanted this settled "in a couple of days", but I suspect it will hang on a back burner until they sign a coach, CP3 signs somewhere, or Danny finds a better deal somewhere else.

Woj said it's the Clippers that reached out to the Celtics.  That's a good sign.
