I don't get it.

It's incredibly likely that playing professional football causes brain damage, to the point where functioning as a human being after playing professionally could be a distinct difficulty.

Wouldn't you want the players to be guys with no other uses for their brains?

So glad the Patriots handled this the way they did and not the way the Ravens handled the whole Ray Lewis situation.

Innocent until proven guilty. I cannot fathom how people think it's fair that his life will be ruined forever...even if he really is innocent. Now, do I think he's innocent? Probably not, but that doesn't mean that we can just forget about this petty thing called "due process".

With that being said, as a Jets fan, I'm glad. I honestly believe that the AFCE next year will be:

1. MIA
2. NYJ
3. BUF
4. NE

I think that the departure of Welker and Hernandez, and the injuries to Gronk will hurt them THAT much. Ridley reminds me of a young Curtis Martin, but, outside of him, their weapons on offense are limited, and I've never trusted their defense.

Man, that arraignment was chilling.  Hernandez is in deep, deep trouble.

Yeah.  The defense attorney is right that the evidence, as presented so far, is nearly all circumstantial.

But where the reasonable doubt here, based on the evidence that was presented?  I'm guessing they have some witnesses, too.

I'm with you on the innocent til proven guilty, but man, a LOT of evidence here.  It's real bad.

And I think you're going overboard.  You seriously think the Jets are better even with the receiving issues for the Pats?  I don't at all, and I'm no Pats fan and do think the receivers are a serious issue.  But the funny thing is as bad as their issues are, the Jets are worse in receivers.

I guess I'm not familiar with all the language, but is this really all circumstantial?  Like if they have bullet casings that tie back to the weapons?  Weapons you can tie to Hernandez directly?  Plus the texts, that they were seen together, etc.  Seems like a LOT of parts tying it together.

People are convicted on circumstantial evidence all the time. (well maybe not rich people as often....)

But unless the defense wants to play the mexican standoff defense with everyone pointing to the other guy as the shooter I don't see how they manufacture reasonable doubt.

I find this incredibly depressing.  A young man dead and Hernandez and other young men possibly throw their own lives away in the process. We don't know details but at best it's tragic and unnecessary.

Re: guns -- I am not saying I have a clue about a solution, but youth, guns, tough-guy (or gang) mentality, drugs/alcohol are a dangerous and often lethal combination.  As usual, it's easier to name the problem than the solution, but I have to believe that making it as difficult as possible to obtain guns will reduce some of the tragic results of impulsive actions that are in play in a lot of youth crime.  And yes, 23 is youth.

The Jets and Buffalo have no (real) quarterbacks, and Miami has... Ryan Tannehill. Brady can have the three stoodges catch passes for him, and he will still have the best odds to come up on top of the AFCE.

Add getting repeatedly hit on the head for a living to the list, and it gets even worse.
