Here's a couple of great articles on the Hernandez situation that I've come across recently.

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9416013/aaron-hernandez-death-odin-lloyd

Little bit of language in each, I believe. And Pierce is pretty anti-gun, so that might offend some sensibilities.

Wouldn't it have been better to surrender to authorities at the police station than be handcuffed and put in the back of a cruiser in front of a plethora of reporters?

You would think but he added an expert criminal attorney to his team yesterday so I would assume they know what they are doing.

One also assumes that the arrest warrant was just cleared this morning and the police department decided to act early as to make sure he was at home, rather than face any kind of protracted scene elsewhere.

Not that it wouldn't have been a scene at the police station, of course.

Also--rereading the thread, I'm still baffled by the relevance of the tattoo picture.

It was actually very quick, one police car drives up, 2 men in suits, (probably detectives) go to the door, cuff him, put him in the car, drive off.

there really was no scene, just plenty of reporters

Right, I was referring to the press mob in part but also the hilarious awkwardness of a car pulling up to find him not home, then a low-key man hunt to find Hernandez.

Which would've generated headlines like "HERNANDEZ EVADES POLICE RAID AT HOME" or somesuch.

You should've been here for the Trayvon Martin thread.

Gonna be interesting to see this unfold.

Elsewhere, im told that Rob Gronkowski woke up in handcuffs today, though that was likely a different scenario

They might not have been given that option.

Total speculation on my part, but what I think may have happened is:

-This was a drug deal gone bad.

-Someone else outside of Hernandez’ crew (on the dealer side) shot the guy.

-They all panicked and didn’t want the drug deal part to get out (because of Hernandez’s employment).

-They left the body (thinking they couldn’t be linked to it since they didn’t touch/kill him).

-They went back to the house and did all this other stuff (phone/camera smashing, hiring the cleaning crew) to hide the fact they were there.  The phones probably have references to the deal, perhaps what happened after, and the camera obviously shows them returning just after the murder.

-They initially refused to cooperate out of fear they’d be killed next.

Who knows if this is the case, but if so it is the BEST CASE SCENARIO for Hernandez at this point and he had better say it and say it SOON. It’s certainly better than being linked to murder.

This all makes more sense to me than Hernandez and his friends taking the guy (who happens to be his fiancé’s sister’s boyfriend) to an isolated industrial park and killing him. They were just out partying with the guy. Think about it: it’s early morning and they’re leaving the bar. Maybe they decide they’d like to pick up some marijuana or (more likely) cocaine and continue the party back at Hernandez’s house. So they call their dealer (or maybe one they met while out) and have him meet them at the industrial park (convenient since it’s close to his house and the perfect place for a late night drug deal because no one is around). Something goes horribly wrong and their friend winds up dead (either the dealer tries to rob them, someone mouths off, whatever).
not a bad line of reasoning applied here.  stupid, stupid, stupid on his part if this is anything close to reality.

if it's worse than this (quite possible), hard to feel sympathy for someone who has it all and then screws it up for no good reason.

Pats released Hernandez.

WOW.

He's going to jail, guys.
