I'm having this nagging suspicion about Rondo ... that maybe all is not as rosy with his recovery.
This is totally unfounded - but if he is more seriously hurt - or his recovery schedule looks long, that could go a long way to explain a lot of the craziness that has gone on the last couple of weeks.
Any thoughts of a 'run it back' all were predicated on a healthy Rondo (as well as a healthy Sully).
With no Rondo available for next season - that would definitely motivate Danny to move KG & Pierce now. And to move KG, he'd have to get Doc to go as well.
He'd keep it completely sealed and mum, of course, because word on it would kill his negotiating leverage. So we should expect no clue that anything is amiss with Rondo's recovery until much later.
Again - this is totally unfounded. But if it is the case, then Danny will try to totally blow things up, or at least make drastic changes. Because with the current roster & cap restrictions, he simply would not have the tools to replace Rondo with a player of good enough talent to still make a run.
It also would mean he can't shop Rondo - because he could not deal in good faith without revealing any issues with his recovery.
It's all a crazy thought. But it totally fits with what is going on with the Clippers deal. It would explain why Doc & KG would be willing to go.
Hopefully this is just my wild imagination and lack of sleep at work.
