Rivers, if he were available, would be the Clippers' No. 1 choice over Shaw and Hollins, executives said.

Rivers has three years on his Boston contract that pays him $7 million per year. NBA executives said Clippers owner Donald Sterling might have been willing to pay Rivers $6 million a year over three years.

The Clippers also are being told that Garnett, 37, would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to join Rivers in Los Angeles, the executives said.

NBA executives said Danny Ainge, the Celtics' president of basketball operations, told Rivers that the talks had stalled between the teams, and Rivers then said he was prepared to return to the Celtics.

If, or when, the Clippers' focus returns to Shaw and Hollins, they will find they have competition from the Denver Nuggets for both.

Shaw interviewed with the Nuggets on Thursday and Friday and has another interview scheduled Tuesday, NBA executives said.

Hollins had to reschedule an interview with Denver from Saturday to next week because of travel issues leaving Los Angeles on Friday. During his two-day visit with the Clippers, Hollins met with Sterling, executives said.

"The Clippers like the coaches that are available," an executive said.

The season wouldn't be awkward or anything...

I don't know how he can comfortably come back to a team he is trying his best to give up on.

I agree completely.  This whole thing has left a real bad taste in my mouth. I want no part of doc after this debacle.  Go broadcast or whatever the hell it is you want to do because you made it evident here is not where you truly want to be.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If I were the Clippers office I'd be spreading crap like this every day to force the Celtics hand. It's the second kind of message the Clips have sent.
I'm assuming Danny eventually budges for just Jordan and 2 picks+Willie Green.
Might as well take it coz KG ain't playing without Pierce and Doc.

and i don't see why Danny would want doc bac. Why pay 7 mil a year for a coach who isn't committed to the players/organization, and clearly doesn't want to be here.
His overrated as a coach anyway.

Grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

he wanting to leave the team was a page out of Jermaine O'Neal's book.  Doc learned from the master.

string Doc along for about 4 weeks ,  then fire him ,  after DH. and CP3 deal is done somewhere.

further more his heart is NOT in Boston , and he admits  NOW he is reluctant to rebuild the Celtics team.

So in my mind he is stalling for another paycheck  anyway , he doesn' t really want back, he just wants the secuirty and paycheck .  Wyc...mull over his situation ,  allow the Mega stars to sign , then axe him hard .....boot him out the front door

send him off to broadcast land to explain himself .....poor Doc "cry me a rivers,"

Hire a coach who is interested in development and building another team . Doc is obviously not the right choice.   He is a wet nurse , not a coach. aka ..Phil Jackson.

Well the Celtics have all the leverage.

They aren't going to take a package they dont  want amd jist let kg doc and paul leave.

If they don't get what they want them let doc broadcast and let kg retire or come off the books.

I'm not putting much stock into anything being reported from either side, although especially not from sources I'm not familiar with on the LA side (like this report from the LA times).

Either the talks are really dead or its just posturing, but either way it won't be definitively over until LAC sign another coach.

Until then everything is a possibility.

note that the story is from a couple of days ago and it also says that the Clippers are prepared to hire someone else

this isn't dead until they actually hire someone else

Clearly I'm in the minority here but I think we are making assumptions about why Doc is looking at the Clippers job. It could be something as simple as working in the same place for 9 years. Why wouldn't you want a change of scenery? The Boston media makes 9 years of employment look like 30. Before the Big 3 came about Doc was the victim of a lot of hatchet job articles and the only fair shake he got was from McMullen and Ryan. Why isn't Theo looked upon as a quitter in Boston? He was just tired of the media and ownership. I really think people should use their heads when trying to assess this instead of taking the easy way. The easy way being..."Doc is a quiitah, we should fire him anyways" "let him go to TNT" or hire a scrub to tank.

I agree that Doc is overrated. However, I do not know who would be a good or better replacement.

Someone like Brian Shaw would be good (esp if he didn't hate the Celtics franchise). I'd rather go get a diamond in the rough looking to prove himself that try to squeeze something out of Doc, who will not be getting any better.

I'd say take what you can get for Doc, hire Shaw (or some other young & talented up and comer) and move on. The only downside is that if you lose Doc, you lose KG & PP. I wouldn't mind having KG & PP back for this coming season.
