I've changed my mind on Clippers Trade

I have been a proponent since last offseason about blowing this thing up and starting over. I was in favor of trading PP and Rondo (most trade value) to get ourselves in a position to start building towards a championship again. It was clear that this team did not have what it took to get past the Heat. Even with a healthy Rondo we'd still be on the sidelines watching.

Then this whole Clippers idea was thrown out there and I saw yet again an opportunity for us to regroup and end up with some pieces. Then many of you made some very great points on here making me rethink this, and I don't like this at all. I think it will handcuff us with mediocre players who can't reach the finals. Getting one or two late first round draft picks is almost worse than no draft picks at all. It forces us to pick a couple of poor players and take valuable roster spots.

Jordan is intriguing as a possibly improving player, but he isn't worth a whole lot right now. Bledsoe is solid, but unless you trade Rondo as well he isn't going to be much better than what we have now. This team would be loaded with mediocre players who can't get out of the first round at best, but good enough to be out of the lottery. That's a recipe for a long stretch of disappointment.

If we are going to do this, do it right. Waive PP. Force KG's hand to retire if he chooses that. (I'd even be okay with him coming back for his last season) Trade Rondo for some legitimate prospects and a low draft pick. Then no long term contracts to tie our hands. Get into the lottery and really rebuild. It is time.

Please remind me of all these "world's best lobs" from Rondo!! While you're at it remind me of  all the times he supposedly is the great "push it up the floor" guy that he gets credit for. Rondo RARELY ever lobs the basketball to anyone. He also usually walks the ball up the floor. For some reason people have this mythical opinion of what Rondo really does on the floor. He is a half court ball pounder that forces us usually into a late shot clock attempt. That's a big reason why above I said I'd package him out of here.

 you dont remember how rondo made shaq look 10 years younger with his lobs? i dont get what your saying, not every lob is a fast break lob across the court

and rondo plays half court because hes faster than his 35 year old teammates. He has to, but i bet it would be more uptempo if he had a quick stash to play with.

So I would imagine then that you can send me a link with a highlight reel of his tons of oops throughout his career then! I have league pass and have basically watched every minute of every game of his 7 seasons in the league and I really think I haven't seen more than 10-15 of them ever. Almost 500 games and none of them come to mind. Seems a little odd considering he is the greatest lob man in the world!

Since he has played with the same core group of guys his entire career who all play a half court game he gets a "free pass" on his skills in pushing the ball up the floor?! He never has pushed the ball up the floor even when he is out there with a young athletic second unit. Instead he walks it up and dribbles the clock out. He SHOULD be able to be an up-tempo PG, but history has shown he is nothing near that. Guy can't get credit for something that he never has done in his career even when he has had the opportunity to do so.

If KG retires and Doc ends up doing TV, then you've just lost both of them for nothing.

At least with Jordan and the Clippers pick, you now have two more "chips" that you didn't have before and/or you also have a young, athletic center you didn't have before.

Yeah, his 20 minutes a game for 37 total games throwing down lobs from Rondo was really the high point of Shaq's career. PLEASE! The guy barely played for us and at best had a handful of lobs. Any of US could throw lobs to Shaq and he'd throw them down. Quite honestly I remember KG throwing more lobs to Shaq than I do Rondo...

I am with you. I'll never understand the Rondo fascination. I don't know, maybe if he was on another team, I'd appreciate him more as sometimes I take some of our own players for granted.

However, I just don't like Rondo's style of play. Never have, never will.

I truly prefer a point guard who can actually shoot the ball and take control of a game as opposed to someone who's just known for being a "facilitator."

That said, it looks like I am in the minority because it appears Rondo will likely be the face of our team over the next several years.

Oh well. I'll still love the Celtics.

That's another reason why I think Danny should take the Jordan offer, if it still stands.

I hear you, and that was my original thought, however when you are in full rebuild mode don't you actually want freedom and space instead of committed assets?! The NBA is full of young athletic players, but that doesn't mean Jordan will pan out. Right now he is appearing that he could be just another big guy that never does anything more likely than a core piece of a championship team. A late first round NBA draft pick is usually just a waste of money and a roster spot. More often than not they don't get their option picked up and fade away. I'd rather have the free spots on the roster and the cap space.

yup....this is how I see a trade that lands us Bledsoe and Jordan too.......they are pieces to get other players ultimately

Without DH  , I don't see CP3 committing till DH has his desination known........ CP3 will first try to follow DH12 I believe

SLAM the phone down....we need to dump mediocre players NOT recive them.......we have what the CLIPPERS  want ...they are wanting what we got.......so they have to pay the price to play the game.
