I, for one, don't think we should pursue Josh Smith. I acknowledge that he's entertaining and he's good pals with Rondo, but Smith will never be part of any championship equation. For the money he will be paid, his play on the court certainly won't justify it. I'd much rather pursue Paul Millsap, who plays on an endless motor and rebounds the hell out of the ball (something the C's have missed in, well, forever). He also has a rock solid mid-range game, which is a far better complement to Boston's system as long as Rondo is around. If we have the cap space, I also think we should look into helping Houston get Thomas Robinson off their hands. They've made it widely known that they're looking to trade him to save cap space for a run at a big free agent, and this is exactly the sort of opportunity Boston needs to absolutely pounce at. Reddick is another guy the Celtics should be looking at. Great shooter who can also handle the rock; last offseason the C's tried to fill this role with Terry and Lee. Neither had ever had that role but both had the potential to succeed in it, but obviously it didn't happen. Reddick has proven to thrive in that sort of role, and would be a huge upgrade for our bench.
Additionally, I say we should turn right around and ship off Bledsoe and DJ. Bledsoe's a solid young player but unfortunately the Celtics aren't in a position to pay for an expensive backup point guard. DJ never really had his chance to shine in LA, particularly under Del Negro, but regardless I'm highly skeptical he'll ever live up to his rather oversized contract.
