If you are currently thinking the Celtics should all out tank, were you also one of the ones that was mad at Ainge for trading Jefferson and Green in the KG and RayRay deals?
I can understand trading KG and PP if we get a good deal or if they are just not going to come back. What I don't understand is why everyone throws Rondo into this. When it counts I think he is the top pg and possibly a top 5 player. Even if you disagree you can't say he is not a star, so why trade him?
It just seems like a lot of fans (here and other places) like the idea of future wins over present wins. Remember when we made the KG and Ray deals and 30% of the board was p---ed? The idea being we traded away a dynasty for a 3 year window.
I know Danny taught us a lesson when he took apart the Walker PP team that did ok. But this is different. Walker was, to be frank, a loser and Paul at that time kind of was too. (no disrespect to paul but hes grown up a lot.) This team has 2 guys in RR and Green that are better then whenever we'd end up getting in the draft.
Think about tanking:
1. we won't be the only ones doing it
2. I'd say there is only about a 25% chance no matter what we do that we could get the worst record.
3. Even if we do thats just 25%
4. There is probably a 20-30% chance Wiggans doesn't turn out to be great
5. Theres probably a 5-10% chance he gets hurt or is just a bust
6. No one else in the draft is better than Rondo
7. Probably only 1 or 2 others will be better than Green
8. Even if we do get the number 1 pick, we'd suck so much that we likely couldn't resign the guy if we arn't a top team 3 years down the road.
When you add it all up it just doesn't make sense. It seems to me that if you really go all out and tank there is only maybe a 3 or 4 percent chance that Wiggans is leading you to titles down the line.
Conversely, if you stay a bit above 500 and have cap room to sign a max contract there is probably a 30-40% chance you get someone decent each year that brings you to or close to top tier.
I'm no psychologist, but I think a lot of people like the idea of winning more than actually winning. So be honest, were you one of the ones saying don't trade Jefferson for KG?
