Honestly, if the Celtics do end up going down the "rebuild through youth" road, I would not mind Doc leaving and bringing in a coach with stronger developmental skills (even if they are not strong playoff coaches.  Make that change when the team is playoff ready)

But if the Celtics are planning to stay in contention, I rather Doc stay.
Who would be such a coach, can you list some please. Is Karl a good developmental coach?

Not sure.

Player development has never been Doc's strong points.  Yes, players have developed, but it is not Doc's strength.

Doc's strengths have seem to be with player relations and getting them to play together and last second play design.  He has also done a good job letting assistant coaches add to the team (Thib's defensive coaching still resonates with the Celtics)

I kind of agree... I mean I want Doc to stay but he's obviously an almost obsessively veteran preferring coach.

I think Karl has shown he can develop players and his up tempo offense could be a good fit with Rondo, Green, etc.

I don't like any potential coaches more really.

yup he is being a jerk,  just leave stop the drama,  you were hired to coach ,  obviously you are afraid of stepping up and building a new team, you are making millions .......for millions we can get somebody that enjoys developing new talent.

Celtics fans deserve better than this .

DA ,  just show him the door and hire Hollins, ......before Glen gets you in trouble for screwing around and not putti g together a decent team.

Just leave already and make all the Lakers fan happy.

I think Doc's lack of communication to the PUBLIC on this situation is causing the talk. There may be smoke, but I definitely wouldn't get riled up over Broussard's "sources"..he's just piggy backing off SAS.

I think we'll know a lot about the state of this team by the end of the month. I do wish Doc will quiet some of the noise, if he's planning to return.

He might be right. It might be time for a change.

The team's effort level over the last few regular seasons has been far to up and down. A new coach. A new voice. A new leader could be what this team needs.

If Pierce, KG, and Rondo are all back, there's not much point in bringing in a new HC, in my opinion.  Those guys trust Doc and listen to him.  Your coach is part of your competitive core.  That's as plain as day when you look at teams like the Lakers with PJ and the Spurs with Pop.

However, if one or more of those guys are gone and we're essentially rebuilding or retooling, I agree that a new voice would be good.  Get somebody else to start a new tenure with a new core group and create his own story.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Who knows what he knows. He may know that KG is calling it quits and that Danny plans on going into re-build mode. I hate this though. I think i am in the minority when i personally love Doc. I think he is a class act, great coach, and someone who has stayed loyal to Boston for awhile. I do hope that if he thinks there needs to be a change that he sits out a season. Would change my perspective of him if he just jumped on a team.

I am so ready for the finals to be over and we can get this drama figured out. Please!

it's weird cuz as much bad as I talked about Rondo (lol) I'm more fearful of losing him than Doc, KG and PP.

Who will be our PG? What good FA PGs are out there?

"A source hints..." that's worth a story?

Doc said a few weeks ago that he's coming back until he says otherwise. He's been attending pre-draft work outs. I'm gonna reserve panic until something more substantial comes up.

This is so childish. Just leave, guy.
Take Paul and KG with you.
I'll assume Rondo would be next.

It's fine.
We'll be good one day.
Oh well!

True.

The window is closed anyway. KG and PP are not going to bring in another title for us even if we get Josh Smith or even Dwight. The Heat and the Pacers and the talent-laden young Cavs will be the teams to reckon with every year for the next 3 years.

I believe SVG is a coach who is truly patient in seeing each player develop and he really gives young players exposure to see how they pan out. Doc is so mediocre in playing young guys. He just brings them in because there are no other players to use not having the surnames Pierce, Garnett or Rondo. SVG or not, there are other coaches who are more patient and deserving to be paid to really coach a storied franchise like the Celtics.

Don't want you back either Doc. From Orlando to Boston, all you cared to play were the All-Stars.

Yeah, most people are missing that there are two ways to interpret this - Doc wanting a "change in his status" might mean stepping down, or a change in his role in the organization (more power and control).

Not enough info to really say which, but it's possible Doc's been frustrated with some of Danny's moves and wants more of a say.
