That's just it. The Bobcats are on pace to be equally as bad next season with no end in sight. And with the draftee will that really change?

No, but if they get a top pick next season it could.

Trading for Bosh just ensures that the Bobcats will have a harder time getting to be anything more than a mediocre team.  They might as well have never tanked in the first place.

That plan isn't a sure thing. You're also thinking as a fan and logically. However, GM's have to balance that logic with the owners happiness, happiness that not only comes from winning, but money as well.

The last 5 years the Bobcats have had the following rankings in league attendance...

09- 26th
10- 22nd
11- 21st
12- 25th
13- 24th

So as a GM what would the pitch to your fanbase be? Don't worry, we're going to keep on being terrible because one of the years we might get lucky?

Yeah, right, so people in Charlotte are going to start watching because they traded the pick they just spent another year tanking for so they could get Chris Bosh?

Nothing short of a top 5 superstar is going to get people in Charlotte to show up for that team.

You're right that the "we might get lucky" plan is a hard sell to fans, but its the one they chose to go with a few years away when they dismantled a playoff team to tank.  Going a different direction now would mean the last few years were a total waste -- unless you think Kemba Walker and MKG are franchise guys.

Again, they might as well just fire themselves.

The idea that the 4th pick in this draft will be contributing more than Bosh 5 years from now is also far from guaranteed. The 4th pick may even be out of the league in 4-5 years. Bosh will still likely be a solid player.

Money and attendance plays a huge role. It's naive to think otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised to see the bobcats fold if they don't improve their income soon. Bosh would certainly help with that. Much more so than an unknown mediocre rookie from this year's draft and a hail-mary hope to get Wiggins next year. How has that worked out for them so far? That's been their strategy every single year and they are awful.

It brings hope. Hope for improvement. Hope to get into the playoffs.

The plan you're advocating makes you a playoff team when? A title team when? Think about it. They'll suck next year (13-14), say they get the #1 pick in 2014 (Wiggins), they'll suck again in 14-15, and then hope for the playoffs in 2015-16?  And that's if they get Wiggins or Parker and if they develop rapidly. So assuming all that happens their best case to start sniffing the playoffs is 2016. Do you think impatient owners will be so, well, patient?

Playoffs = revenue, which results in more stability for the franchise. Putting all your financial hopes on the mathematically low chance that you land Wiggins next year, AND that he stays healthy (see Oden, Len Bias, etc) and pans out as a player, is highly likely to kill the franchise completely.

Bosh won't be on the Bobcats anymore 5 years from now.  No way he re-signs.

The Bobcats have been awful the past few years BY DESIGN.  It's all been on purpose, guys.

To suddenly trade a top pick just to get back to where they were a few years ago makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.

Whether or not the plan they've gone with was the right one, they committed to it.  There hasn't been an ownership change or a new GM hired.  So suddenly changing course so drastically would be a dumbfounding move.

Bosh and Cole to Cleveland for Varejao and #1 makes a lot of sense for both teams.  Bosh adds a legit #2 for Irving and Cole adds some nice depth to their bench.  The Heat can add Noel for the future and still get a nice center in the short term if Varejao can stay healthy.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If the Heat trade any one of their big 3, it should be Wade, he's falling apart.

Yeah I'm getting that sense.

LOL.

Heat say, "Hey Cavs, sorry we took LeBron and all . . . but here, you can have Bosh!"

"Oh by the way, please throw in your #1 overall pick to get him.  Ya know, just so we can have two out of your last three #1 picks."

How about this one --

Eric Bledsoe + Deandre Jordan + Caron Butler

for

Bosh + Chalmers + MIA 2013 1st

I doubt that Bosh would be able to draw a first round draft pick anywhere in the lottery.

I'm pretty sure he could net the first pick in this draft no problem.  all-star big man in the hand beats a injured, 1-dimensional prospect in the bush

Would the Heat trade Bosh for a lottery pick?  It wouldn't seem to help their championship hopes much.
