I don't care HOW MANY FT's the Pacers missed.  The Heat had almost TWICE the FT attempts and Lebron had almost as many attempts as the entire Pacers' team.

The NBA flipped their switch with the foul calls too.   I knew and called it that their bigs would be in foul trouble, all too easily to predict in Stern's Era.

Kind of. LBJ was 8-8 at the half... but as a team Miami was 12-13 to the Pacers 6-12.

I think the Heat definitely chucked themselves at Hibbert a lot more frequently this game than in games earlier, and the Pacers responded poorly.

Vogel got out-coached by Spolestra. Vogel's inexperience cost the Pacers the series.

That being said, for an inexperienced coach, Vogel did a great job getting the Pacers to the 7th game of the ECF without Grtanger.

Vogel's ineptness/slowness in adjusting to the cHeat's adjustments were fatal to the Pacers. Particularly the cHeat's collapsing into the paint on Hibbert especially in the first quarter when the tone of the game was set by that huge # of turnovers.

The Pacers punched above their weight all year long in large part due to their Head Coach Frank Vogel. He is not part of the problem. Is part of the solution.

Indiana needs to concentrate on upgrading their backcourt. They lost because of a lack of talent. Not coaching.

I really don't understand the logic in firing a coach that advances further in the playoffs each yr (this yr without their best player)...He made some mistakes, but I've NEVER seen a coach not make any (even the great Pop). They're a young team that has really matured since they played the Heat last yr and they still have tremendous upside.

They need to upgrade their backcourt. In Game 5 I think they totaled for 4 or 5 points and they did a little bit better for Game 7. Can you imagine how good the Pacers would be if they had a Steph Curry.

The Heat outplayed the Pacer in two of the seven games, yet managed to win 4 of them.  Thats on the coach.

Vogel cost Indy this series.  They likely would have won game one if he had NOT sat Hibbert, his only true rim protector, on two key plays late in that game.

Then, he decides to rest Hibbert and George for a key 5-6 minute stretch in the second quarter when the game was being blown open.

Indiana will NOT win a championship under Vogel's leadership.  They need a real coach such as Vinny Del Negro or Lionel Hollins to take that next step.  They don't have the talent to have a mediocre coach lead them to a title as do the Heat.

P.S. If Larry returns to the front office, he has to consider this very difficult FACT.

I blame him more for 1st game lost in 2.3 seconds being 1 point up and leting Lebron to score so easy. Of course yersterday let MIAMI during 2nd qrt to get advantage playing without Hibbert...In general is mediocre coach. I think jerry Van Gundy or Sloan would be perfect for Indys

Eugen,

Great call.  Van Gundy or Sloan would be terrific and far better than the others I mentioned, outside of perhaps Phil Jackson.

Vogel deserves a lot of credit for getting Indy as far as they did, but sitting Hibbert at the end of game 1 and not changing his rotation in game 7 were huge mistakes.  I mean, it's game 7 and you're down by three so you sit BOTH George and Hibbert in the 2nd quarter.  Why?  Because that's just what you've always done?  Maybe you've got to get Hibbert some rest but there's no reason why Vogel shouldn't have gone to George and told him to expect to play 48 minutes.

Vogel also can't tolerate the kind of stupid, sloppy turnovers that Indy committed all series and season long.  That's something he needs to fix next season.

The premise of the thread has me rolling my eyes.

2011-  First Round Exit

2012-  Conference Semifinals Exit

2013-  Conference Finals Exit

Given what he's working with, you don't fire guys with that track record.  Not after 3 years and not after what he's inherited.  It's nuts.

Personally, I think he's done a heckuva solid job.  He's not perfect but he's also only 39 and has been a head coach for only 3 seasons.  You'd think he's only going to improve as a coach.  The concern being what Indiana will do from a personnel standpoint.

You'd think people around here would recognize the idea that a coach can have potential and improve over time just as players can, considering the improvement we've seen with Doc over the years.

Doc has his flaws, but he's a far better coach now than he was 10 years ago.

Just as the Pacers are a young team with plenty of room to grow, Vogel is a young coach with plenty of room to grow -- and he's alredy quite good.

Vinny Del Negro?

Not sure how I'm supposed to take this seriously.  Del Negro is terrible.

No kidding. VDN still doesn't understand how an offense is run.

^This..and to add, that they've matured each time.A lot of people just look at the stats, but the mental plays an even more important part in this game. He's instilled confidence in that team, that's all David West and Hibbert have talked about with this coach. It wasn't a false or arrogant confidence (i.e Knicks dressing for funeral). All they need are a couple of minor tweeks to their roster.

I just personally think that the Pacers are title contenders over the next 4 years or so and that Vogel might keep them from winning it all.  They cannot, IHMO, wait on him to develop (if he ever develops into a championship type coach).

He is an average coach that made critical errors in this series that cost his team and organization a chance to play for the World Title.

I agree with the OP. If only Vinny Del Negro was coach and Gerald Green was given substantial playing time, the Pacers would've beat the Heat.

FYI, through three quarters it was 24-19 . The Heat were already up 21 so the 4th quarter FTs didn't matter.
