He has damaged the reputation of the Celtics.

How so?

By saying he's a Celtic. He damaged his reputation and his legacy. He could've stayed, been paid more, enjoyed a longer tenure with the Celtics. Probably reverted back to the bench once Bradley came back healthy, but would still receive a decent amount of minutes.

You can't say your a Celtic like its a every day sort of thing. To me, that is not only a slap in the face to us as a fan, but to every player who's given their heart and soul to the organization, namely Pierce/KG. Pierce has said many times Allen was like a brother to him, and it really hurt to see him go. Pierce to me is and will always be the face of the franchise in this ERA.

Ray left the team ignominiously, and while the organization overall wasn't innocent. He decided to leave us for the rivals. We then offered to give him more money, probably a larger role considering he was getting healthy, and a no trade clause. Something we didn't even give to Pierce who's between with us since day one.

EDIT:

I don't see how Ray can truly feel happy knowing that his jersey won't be retired by any of the teams he played for.

Nor, will he express true happiness, watching the video of him in the back next to Mario Chalmers, as Lebron holds up the trophy gleefully with the Big 3.

Allen should've never left. He was getting old, and wouldn't be able to produce the same amount of minutes or numbers. Not to mention how does he feel knowing the Heat couldn't care less about him if he fails to show up? He'll be on the trading block if he doesn't pick up his player option.

If you're saying that the reputation of the Celtics suffered because they employed a jerk, I think this franchise has crossed that bridge several times.  Rick Pitino was a jerk.  Mark Blount was a jerk.  "Bad News" Barnes was a jerk.

None of them really damaged the Celtics, or Celtic Pride, or however you want to describe it.  The franchise is bigger than any one player, or any one player's decision to depart as a free agent.

Crap, sorry I'm operating on 4 hours of sleep.

I meant he damaged the reputation between him and the Celtics.

I still think even though he was dangled for trades, the way he left was stupid...

Gotcha.

I think that's probably right.  Not enough time has passed to heal the wounds of Ray leaving.  If he'd done this when he was 26, rather than 36, there's a chance Boston management and fans would want him back at a later time.  Now, though, he just doesn't have enough years for that healing process to take place.

This sounds like a really silly rumor.

Ray passes up $6M per year to leave the Celtics for $3M per year with Miami.

Ray, is now going to give up the $3M in Miami to play for vet min ~$800K in Boston for 1 year after upsetting all sorts of people along the way and ultimately getting $8M less over two years than he could have if he stayed?

I'd def take him back for short money if PP & KG and everyone else are on board. Just seems like a really weird move for Ray. He'd be admitting defeat.

It isn't weird.

He won a title here, played more of his career.  He was probably thought as a Celtic foremost before he made his move to Miami.

He seems to want to live in New England.

And as for the money, it's small change for what he can make doing broadcasting or whatever else he wants to do in the long run.  That's not the issue.

Real question is a lot of small things led to his departure with the C's.

Would Rondo, Pierce, Garnett be willing to take him back? Why would he want to come back for less money, knowing full and well how the fans and team feels about him?

If he had pushed and made every effort to work hard on the court, and let his game do the talking. I don't see how no one wouldn't try to at least forgive him.

I think the reason why I hate him so much, is because he had me fooled. I thought of him as one of the most humblest and nicest guys.

Guess I was wrong.

Well, if he's coming for the vet min, he could help with some scoring from the bench.

I hope Indiana beats the Heat, but I hold nothing against "that guy". If he wore Celtic green again, I'd call him Ray.

Of course, I'd love to see what Wyc, Doc, Rondo, KG and Pierce would think about that. But it would be crazy if the Big 3 were to retire together in green, after last summer's drama.

It's highly unlikely, but it would be great to hear the Three Stooges calling Allen "a traitor" to the Heat family...

So then why leave in the first place? And for those that say he did it just to chase a title, and if Miami loses maybe he doesn't see them as such a sure thing... Well the Celtics took that team to 7 games the year before, and at the start of the year were on a very short list of "teams that could beat Miami", so he could have had that chance in Boston, in hindsight the Rondo injury ended it, but nobody knew that then.

The only argument I could say is maybe, just maybe he's falling into the age old "the grass isn't always greener on the other side" problem. Sometimes things sound much better on paper, or in the interview room when Pat Riley is spoon feeding your ego, than it is in reality.

He wanted the ring plus his beef with Rondo and management.

Notice none of my post was defending his decision or saying we should bring him back (if this rumor even has any truth to it).

I think it would be a nice ending, but I do not if this is really true or are false rumors. Allen never had to leave Boston, Ainge was at fault, as is happening now with Pierce, deadline after deadline.
Nevertheless, people in Boston still loves Ray, but your decision to choose Miami is not forgotten, removing the series against Bucks, he is having little importance, see what happens tonight in game 7 and if they advance to the finals.
There are many outstanding things in Boston, will happen with Pierce, Garnett, Doc ... it makes no sense if you do not continue KG Pierce and Ray Allen back.
