Quote
Dario Saric, SF, Croatia (No. 13 in SI.com's latest Mock Draft): While draft boards across the league will fluctuate wildly over the next few weeks, many agree on this: Saric is the most talented international import. An Eastern Conference executive described Saric as "skilled beyond his years"; a Western Conference talent evaluator said Saric is "the best passing big man in the draft"; and several personnel men cited his diverse offensive repertoire as proof that the 19-year-old Saric will be able to play right away.

Perhaps more important, Saric has the drive to get better. "He's a workaholic," a scout said. "He lives in the gym. With his basketball IQ, you're talking about a kid with All-Star potential."

Quote
Dennis Schroeder, PG, Germany (No. 14): An often-cited comparison is flattering: Boston's Rajon Rondo. "He's got those long arms and dynamic skills," a West executive said of the 6-2, 165-pound Schroeder, a quick 19-year-old. Schroeder burst onto NBA radars with a stellar performance at the 2013 Nike Hoops Summit, and he's impressed teams with his playmaking instincts. Schroeder excels in the pick-and-roll and confidently directs an offense.

"He's so poised," an international scout said. "The way he weaves in and out of the paint, the way he creates, he is a high-level talent."

Executives who have researched Schroeder have expressed concern about his attitude and maturity, but one West official said "it's nothing that would make me pass him up."

Quote
Rudy Gobert, C, France (No. 21): Gobert's stock "is dropping like a stone," according to an East executive. His freakish dimensions aside -- he is 7-2 with combine records of a 7-9 wingspan and 9-7 standing reach -- the 20-year-old Gobert lacks basic offensive skills. He doesn't posses a jump shot, which eliminates him in pick-and-pop action. He isn't particularly strong or athletic and has not shown scouts that he has the tools to develop into an effective scorer in the post.

One executive compared Gobert to Alexis Ajinca, a fellow Frenchman who went 20th to Charlotte in 2008. Ajinca played 71 games over three seasons, never averaging more than 10 minutes. Several team executives said they would take a flyer on Gobert in the 25-30 range.

"If you take him too high and he fails, you are going to look like an idiot," an East scout said.

Quote
Giannis Adetokunbo, SF, Greece: Adetokunbo fancies himself a point guard, but you won't find an NBA executive who believes he can play the position. The 18-year-old is long, athletic and runs the floor well. But he played against what one East scout called "Division III-type guys" last season, when he struggled to create off the dribble at times.

"I wouldn't touch him," a West executive said. "I don't even know how good he is going to be once he reaches his potential."

A team in position to stash Adetokunbo overseas for a few years to let him fill out and develop is probably the best fit.

They have a few other write ups of foreign players on that link . One West executive identified the 20-year-old Lucas Nogueira as a sleeper.

Saric remains very interesting to me. Seems to be nothing but positives when I read about him.

Did even one single guy put his name on what he said? Why would you let people know what you're thinking right before the draft.

That's probably why they didn't put their name on it.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Schroeder, Saric or Noguerra for me.
Schroeder is going to be a star. His length and shooting ability are very promising. Incredible handle too.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

This is my take of these youngsters after watching a few games of them playing

- Saric has a high level of intangibles. Nightmare mismatch for opposing sf's and even pf's. He is taller than most sf's at 6'10, can post up and quicker and more fluid than most pfs.  His rebounding is rock solid and he is a solid competitor. His passing is great. For example he will get a pass under the basket, bring two guys to him and make the easy pass to the other guy undereath the basket for a higher shooting percentage shot. If he just had a more consistent shot, i'd bet he goes top 5 this year.  Reminds me of Boris Diaw, the way his shot is inconsistent also. But a better Diaw bc he plays with fire

- Schroeder is good also. He can't jump as high as you'd think and may have problems finishing around the basket.  But can pass, shoot, drive in, defend and be a true pg. A Rondo, Darren Collison hybrid

- Giannis has Nic Batum writen all over him. But i don't think he will be a go to guy type in the nba. If you concentrate on the main guys too much, he can kill you though. Shooting needs work, lacks midrange game , strength and experience.

- Livio Jean Charles - The guy nobody talks about and the guy i believe will be a steal in the late 1st/early 2nd round.  He plays under control, disciplined, unstoppable going to the basket, underrated rebounder/shot blocker, very active on both ends. Plays with a chip on his shoulders.   From what i can see, similiar to Taj Gibson. Won't get by San Antonio

nogueira is raw and needs to strengthen up pronto (maybe he can't). He can't just abuse his height, speed and athleticism in the nba

Saric will be the guy in 2 years. He needs better advice, get drafted by the Cs and stay in Europe to develop his shooting and his body. He will be a great PF with PG skills, not a SF.

Schroeder looks like a good player, maybe a starter, if he's BPA when Danny picks, he will take him.

Adekotunbo or Gobert could be good options late in 1st round or 2nd round. At #16 wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Yeah, watching video of him that's the comparison that made the most sense to me.  Somewhere between Gallo and Turkoglu, at least.

I'm not surprised by the commentary about the other guys.  I think the Rondo comparison is a little bit too easy with Schroeder because they happen to look similar and have the same body type.

I'm similarly skeptical about Gobert and Giannis.  I don't trust guys who are rated high on draft boards solely on their measurements.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

no. Gallo and Turkoglu are exceptional shooters. Though they can handle the ball and pass too, Saric is a step ahead of them.

I've mentioned comparisons to magic, Diaw. Saric is closer to these guys in terms of size, ability to post smaller guys, handle the ball, pass, and high iq.

Not a huge believer in some of the scouting reports that come out on Euros. I just keep remembering all the hype about Jan Vesely and Bismack Byombo and Kevin Seraphin and Victor Claver and Omri Casspi and Alexis Ajinca.

Heck, can anyone really say that Rubio or Gallinari have lived up to how good some of the scouting reports that preceded those guys said they were? They are good players but I don't think either is even close to ever being an All-Star.

BTW does anyone realize who the last Euro drafted was that made an All-Star team?
