smith could be the athletic big guy they haven't had since KG started being old.
would love to see how rondo jgreen and jsmith could run together.

love big als low post game but not sure how well he fits in  - more of a half court player and it seems like they're always trying to be more up tempo.

i think doc could make smith shine

If we add Josh Smith to this team we have now we would still be playing. Imagine this line up.(If healthy)

Rondo/Terry
Pierce/Lee/Terry
Green/Pierce
Smith/Sully
KG/MLE Big

Thats an athletic team that can play in the half court and get out in transition. Plus you add the 16th pick and hopefully we can get value out of him. There is no need for a blow up so soon. Ride the wave of the pride of Boston. These older guys wont quit. These guys are older but wiser and know what it takes to win a championship. We just need Josh Smith. To get Smith though I assume we would have to give up Bradley/Bass/Melo/and maybe the pick since they are looking for cap space.

That doesn't give them cap space though. We would have to trade Pierce to do it.

I think Milsap gives us a minimal upgrade over what Bass gives us.

Milsap takes 35% of his shots within 3 feet of the basket.  Bass 26%.  (Jefferson 24%).  Milsap takes as many free throws per 36 minutes than Jefferson and Bass combined.  Milsap rebounds at a rate approximately midway between Jefferson and Bass.  Milsap gets more than twice as many assists as Bass.

I'm not arguing Bass is equal to Milsap because that is silly.

However, do you think Milsap is that much better than Bass to be worth likely twice the salary? This is where I say no thanks to Milsap.

That's the big one right there. With Pierce regressing we have no one who can get to the line consistently, and that is a big factor in playoff games.

Well, Rondo CAN get to the line, he doesn't want to because he can't hit free throws though.

they all have plusses and minuses.

Al: + --> offense and rebounding
- --> defense

Smith: + --> defense, rebounding, energy, decent offense
- --> BBIQ, shot selection

Milsap: + --> pretty decent in all aspects of the game
- --> doesn't really excel in any aspect of the game where he's clearly better than the other 2

Factoring in the wasteland that is Josh Smith's basketball IQ and Al Jefferson's abysmal rotations and help defense, I'm not sure that your read on Milsap is entirely accurate.

I think Bass is worth about $4-6m.  I think Milsap is worth $4-5m more than Bass.  So, yes.  I would be willing to trade Bass, Lee, and the 2014 first-round pick (with some protection) for Milsap, Utah's second-round pick this season, and a future second.

I think Milsap at $9-10m/year (and one anonymous NBA front office guy thinks he might go as low as $21m/3yrs) would be a better value than Al Jefferson at $12m or Josh Smith at $15m.  Actually, I'd take Milsap over Jefferson if I had to pay one of them $10m.

I want Omer Asik! But seriously, from the 3 my view is Jefferson fills the biggest gap, unless Milsap's inside game is better than I know.

I thought that statistically KG's numbers were better at the C spot.  Am I mistaken?

Jefferson.

The low post offense would be a huge boost.

I totally agree with you wdleehi!!  We have not had a true low post scorer since ....  Well, since Big Al left.

I thought someone posted some defensive statistical info about Big Al that showed that he is NOT that bad of a defender.

Am I mistaken??

Thanks,

There have been many weak to weak-average defenders next to KG.  The key has always been getting them to play the team defense.
