To be a contender, sign two big centers in order to win in NBA. This is my conclusion in order to do the great thing, winning NBA title. See the Indys center tandem West-Hibbert or SAS tandem Splitter-Duncan, and you can dominate te basket and score.

two* And yes I'd agree that a big/skilled frontcourt will get you far. I'd say a good floor spreading pf and a big bruising center are the best combination. If KG stays, I hope we find a way to get Big Al here. Would be a great frontcourt

Having two above-average big men who can both score and defend is definitely a recipe for success.

The problem is, there aren't a lot of ways for us to put that type of tandem together.

"sign to big centers to win NBA"

um, okay?

On point: As others have indicated, it's really hard to get a combo like that.  Pretty much every team knows getting two All-Star caliber big men with legit size is a recipe for 50+ wins, but there are only so many tall people who are actually skilled around.  That's why even average centers cost upwards of 5 million a year.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I agree with this. For some reason, my post on how the Celts should go after Jefferson/Millsap and Gortat this summer got ripped to shreds because many felt having Rondo is equally/more important, but yes.

Basketball will always be a big man's sport.

Meet the Heat.

Meet the once-in-a-generation talent called LeBron.

The other 29 teams need size to compete.

Meet the Heat.

Them and who else?

This thread is dead on about size, problem is attaining it.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
You need bigs but you need shooters and playmakers surrounding those bigs. Memphis has arguably the best big man tandem in the NBA, yet they we're destroyed by the Spurs double team by the Spurs with no decent shooters other than pondexter and Conley to shoot. Allen and Prince are garbage from 3pt and mid range and are both poor.at attacking the Tim. They left Gasol and Zeebo stranded.

You need bigs but you need shooters.
My dream Celtics line up would have Cousins and Sully in the middle surrounded by Rondo (or Kyle Lowry) with 2 more 40% 3 point shooters.

Cousins
Sully
Green
Klay Thompson
Rondo or a 3 pt shooting pg
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

2 bigs dominate only if there are serious scoring threats around them. Spurs is the ideal package in that sense. Not only kawai and green are good shooters but they can also penetrate in the paint.

I am all for the idea of going after one of those big without using Rondo.

Gortat or Jefferson next to KG would be a huge boost to this team.  Sully would make for a good first big man off the bench.  The Celtics would not need a starting quality 4th big man at that point.  Just a big man with one or two above average skills (defense/rebounding/jumpshot) as a bridge player.

Keep Rondo in these scenarios because he can and does create issues for the other teams defenses in the playoffs.  If the offense is designed to fit the players, having him is a huge bonus.

Works for MIA, why not?

Ok your whole premise got dismantled.   The thing did not work too well for Detroit.

Interesting quote of Phil Jackson re: Lakers

Jackson says:
Quote
"I think they need to get back inside, where the strength of their team is and use that presence in there to dominate games. I think there is a way to do that."

Cowherd posited that an inside-oriented approach would not occur with D'Antoni leading the team and Jackson replied, "You're right."
