If KG is coming back you'd have to believe Paul is coming back. Paul and KG are attached at the hip. Consider them Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito in Twins. If the rumor of Ainge looking to go after Millsap or Jefferson is true, then the trade package is gonna somehow not include Pierce.

Bradley, our Pick, and salary filler for Jefferson?

I was pretty much taking it for granted he was coming back at least for one more year to see how they do with Rondo back

And, to pick up that check for $11 million?
I don't think KG would worry about getting a check that accounts for 0.03% of the total amount of money he has earned in his career.

You would rather have Milsap than Pierce?
You would rather have an undersized PF that is good but no amazing in his game and can't do anything else than an SF that can run the point, play the SG as a very very good shooter, trouble opposing SF's with his moves, guard PF's decently and rebound better than many centers in this league?

Wow. Just wow.

Pierce had a solid season.  He had a pretty rough series vs New York.  Don't know if he was injured or just couldn't get it done against NY.

If KG comes back, might make sense to just keep Pierce.  KG is our best defensive player and Pierce is still our best on offense... hence why we couldn't beat New York.. if Pierce can't do it, Boston can't do it.

I really think Boston would need a significant addition (a big) in order to contend, though.  Otherwise even once Rondo comes back we're a late playoff seed.

The real question is, 'would you rather have 4 years of Millsap at 10 million (or less) a year or 1 year of Pierce?'

Honestly, at this point I'd rather see one more year of them together.  When on earth are we ever gonna see two guys of their stature playing together again.  We're not gonna a championship and the rebuild is going to be a slow process no matter how you slice it.  Gimme some more grizzled greats.  They still have their moments and they always bust their butts.

Pierce, if for no other reason than because he comes off the books sooner.

What are we left with in 2-3 years?  Rondo, Green, Millsap does not a contender make, yet they'd be eating up 30 million in cap space (or more).

Hmmmm...4 years of Millsap at 10 mill.

Not sure why money is such an issue, anyway? Championships equal money, people. Championships equal money.

What continues to amaze me is how adamantly pro-Paul Pierce you are after how badly he looked in the playoffs.

Millsap isn't putting us over the top, nor is he going to be a centerpiece for our future, nor is he likely going to be flipped for something that can do either. He's just money tied down for mediocrity.

We lack rebounding and scoring big men. Milsap does both. We have a replacement for Pierce in Jeff Green. Trading Pierce to fill two of our needs makes sense. Who do you reasonably expect to get for Pierce? We are not getting an all-star for a player on the verge of retirement who has regressed significantly. The only teams that are willing to trade for him want his expiring contract, not Pierce himself.
