Its funny how many people think we are really going to rebuild from the draft.

Think from your brain, seriously.

Nice. If the C's show him the door the have one less chip to play. If they stick by him his value remains intact. Whether he sticks with the team or not he has improved a lot. His shooting is no longer a liability. If he can keep his head on straight will be fine.

Does it matter why he hasn't made it? Would he be the first player in NBA history to not make it in the league, not because of talent or skills but because of attitude or intelligence issues? Of course not. Being a pro takes a minimum of maturity and intelligence. Some people never make it because of those reasons and not because they don't have enough talent or skill.

This is definitely Williams' problem.

That doesn't stop some fans from saying it is the coach's problem.

This isn't a Doc Rivers thing.  Visit blogs or forums for other teams and you will often find fans complaining that a player is not getting minutes.  Sometimes, it is because of known attitude issues but fans insist that the player who is actually getting playing time is so horrible that the coach should go with the alternative, even if does have issues.  Sometimes, there is no known attitude issue, but fans refuse to speculate on that, preferring an explanation that the coach is playing favorites or has irrational reasons for placing a player in his doghouse.

I don't think OP knows what a franchise player means.

i.e.

Paul Pierce
Kobe Bryant
Lebron James
Kevin Garnett
Dirk Nowitzki
Tim Duncan
and so on...

There's no way he'll ever be a franchise player.

LOL, yea, borderline NBA player at best. He's not even a franchise player in the D-league.

His last season with Sacramento he averaged 15 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.6 steals per 36 minutes.

Those are right up around Paul George numbers, and even now the guy is still only 26 years old.

It's a little different doing it in a backup role for 20 games on one of the worst teams in the league and doing it as a featured player on a contending team.

He could be a franchise player, as in a player the team builds around. Y'know, like Udonis Haslem
Jeff Green - Top 5 SF

Only he wasn't playing 36 min. and only played 18 games with 0 starts.

No comparison between George and Williams. Williams lacks quickness needed for the NBA.

anyone want to hazard a guess if T Will is back in green next season?  Will he get pulled into the rebuilding backwash and sent packing with others for new assets or does he make it through camp as a backup PG and get a full season to improve?

I don't want him back.

I think his inability to shoot the ball effectively makes T-Will a bad fit in the same backcourt (SG) alongside Rondo (PG).

I like T-Will's potential as a PG but I think he needs more minutes to develop into a true PG than he would receive as a backup PG. I don't think that is the right role to develop him. Not enough playing time. I would rather sign a proper PG and cut T-Will loose.

He is a very interesting prospect but I don't Boston is the right place for him to progress his career. I say Boston should move on. Let him leave.

You can play him starting PG while Rondo recover and once he develop well trade him in February. More value that way. And if you are lucky, he can become a great backup PG and in that case you keep him at a bargain price. Why would you get rid of him so fast. No risk attached.

In a rebuild mode, it seems far wiser to keep a high-risk, high-reward player at a minimum salary as opposed to bringing in a veteran at the same cost.

The goal is to acquire assets for future deals and/or let young players compete for a place in the league. T-Will seems like a good candidate for this role.

Edit: Idk what happened here. Apparently my sub-conscious told me I hadn't finished my thought.  ???

I think it's 50-50 if he stays or not.  If we try to run it back, his non-guaranteed contract, as well as those of Shavlik and White, are one of the few ways we can add salary to an incoming trade with the other team not having to take salary back.  Likewise, if we blow it up, his salary can be used to increase the amount we take back from a team looking to dump salary in exchange for also giving us a future pick and/or a young player worth having.

That said, I think he's the least likely of the three to be traded, as he definitely has the most upside, and there's room and need on the roster for a point guard.  He's also the cheapest to keep, and has a portion of his salary guaranteed beginning July 1st, so he offers less salary relief to other teams.

I also think the C's are talking him up a bit to signal to other teams that he's more than simply trade ballast.

Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge have both talked to Terrence Williams about what happened, and according to Williams, he will remain a key part of the Celtics organization. He is an extremely talented player, and he could become a franchise player if he learned how to use his athletic ability.

A franchise player??? What am I missing because the Terrence Williams I saw this year didn't even come close to resembling a franchise player

Franchise player is my ceiling too.  Like TW, I probably won't get there.
