I just like the syntax of the thread title. Sounds like a progressive rock opera.

Rush presents their first studio album in 20 years, an epic journey from pauper to prince, from majesty to misery, the oldest story ever told with a new voice you've never heard. For the Gorgui Dieng, in stores and online June 30th, 2013.

Very funny stuff.

I'll buy that album.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
I am a big Dieng fan. I think he can come in and play defense at the NBA level immediately. Both him and Fab were elite defensively in college, however there was one main difference.

Fab did so standing in the middle waiting for the ball to come to him in a Cuse zone that doesn't translate to the NBA. Dieng played mostly man, and showed that he can guard 1 on 1, blitz screens and block weakside shots. He also proved that he can rebound and knock down the mid range jumper. All those are areas Fab Melo struggles with.

Despite him being old, (relatively) like Fab Melo he has a ton of room for growth because he hasn't been playing basketball very long. Oh and he is in excellent shape, another thing Fab struggled with. RIght now he is essentially where we want Fab to be at the end of this year or the next.

I think Dieng will make a fine backup center in the NBA but I don't expect any more than that from him though. I would be surprised if he ever became a quality starter.

I would like Danny Ainge to aim for something better than that with the #16 pick. Even if it's a higher risk choice. I'd rather take that chance and try to develop someone than take the more sure thing with a low ceiling.

As long as it features an extended, 17-minute drum solo by Neil Peart, I'm there.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I dont mind having Dieng playing for us.

The only thing i'm against it is his reported low ceiling. There are guys who may not be as NBA ready as Dieng, but has higher upside, as it comes to talent and physical features.

Well I pretty much disagree with every thing Chad Ford has ever uttered about basketball so this only feeds into that more.

Chad Ford doesnt have an inkling about what heart means and Dieng has that.

Im not giving up on Fab but Dieng is clearly way more advanced at this point than Fab is. The dude is going to be a good nba center. Hopefully that's on the Celtics.

Precisely. He can guard guards on switches and is also a really good passer. He meets all the needs you want in a center. I hope everybody keeps sleeping on him.

A few minutes ago on ESPN, Chad Ford on the most overrated player in the draft:

Gorgui Dieng. He rode Louisville's great NCAA championship game into the first round, maybe the lottery. He's old and still pretty raw offensively. He has high bust potential.

I could not agree more. Why people on this site want this guy is beyond me. He is basically Fab Melo again. So why pick up the same guy at 16 when we got him at 22 last year. The obsession with centers has got to stop. I still think that if we stay at 16 the best pick would be either a point  or shooting guard. Jamaal Franklin would be a brilliant pick at 16 if you ask me. He can do everything, guard 3 positions and has a crazy motor. Perfect for Boton

I admit that I've been intrigued with Dieng, but I'm no expert. I certainly don't want another project (don't even really want the one we have). I will add, though, that my obsession with centers is unlikely to end anytime soon. I realize that good bigs are hard to come by, but this Boston team has got to get bigger, tougher, and meaner inside. HAS to. Whether that's through the draft, trades, or free agency, I don't care, but an old KG and an undersized Bass and Sully won't get the job done often enough.

That's what I was thinking. And if KG retires, we'll have a front line about as good as that of the Bobcats.

We got to stockpile those guys. If KG comes back (which I believe he will) I would STILL sign Greg Oden, draft Gorgui Dieng, and have Fab on the roster.

Well to be fair, if KG retires we'll have a frontline as good as the Bobcats anyways.
