I wrote about this in the other thread, and it's not completely my idea:

Isn't Noel the perfect fit? Both in that he seems to be a great compliment to Irving, and in that he won't return at least til midseason. With a loaded 2014 don't the Cavs ultimately want to continue to stink?

I know the argument is that it'll anger Irving, but you enter next season with him, a now healthy Noel, Thompson (though I don't really like Thompson, especially next to Noel), Waiters, a lottery pick in a loaded draft, and about 30 million dollars to spend in a loaded free agent market that includes Lebron? You're telling me he's going to walk away from that scenario b/c the teams not a winner?
My first instinct when hearing that the Cavs won the lotto was that Noel would be a perfect fit.  Even if he's still recovering from surgery, it would be a perfect fit... the Cavs can afford to lose another season and add another lotto pick.  Then they have an incredible young core that would be very attractive to LeBron James next year.  It makes the most sense for them to just take Noel... or perhaps they are planning on trading down a couple spots and taking Noel if Noel is expected to slip a little.

Slightly off topic -

But a guy I absolutely love for their team is Andre Iguodala.

Iggy would be pretty sweet there. A frontcourt trio of Iggy, T.Thompson and N.Noel would be one heck of a strong defensive backbone. Hopefully Waiters can grow into that 2nd scoring option for Kyrie. If Waiters could, that starting five could really go places.

What kind of offers could the Cavs expect for the #1 pick?

Dont' think Cavs fans will be happy. Just talked to half the GMs in the league, and they are all looking to sell their picks. No one really wants No. 1, nor are they willing to give up a valuable asset to get it. I think the Cavs will have a hard time moving it.

If the above is true, I hope Ainge can convince Wyc to open up his wallet.

I think the Cavs are getting a bit impatient with their rebuilding process. The lack of progress being made. And now Kyrie Irving making some noises about being unhappy at the team's lack of winning. His contract is up in two years. Need to show they can compete for a title.

I think they are looking for an already established young-ish star to pair with Kyrie Irving. To make Kyrie happy and to get Cleveland back into the playoffs. I think they would rather that than another 25 win season and high draft pick.

What if DET came knocking with a package built around Monroe? Well he may never be a superstar he is still a very skilled player and only 22 years old. Detroit really needs scoring and if they could grab Mac with the 1st and Burke with their original pick they may have their backcourt of the future. Burke/Mac/Drummond is not a bad core for a rebuild

Irving (21)
Waitors (22)
?
Thompsan (22
Monroe (22)

Why would Detroit give away a 22 year old C averaging 16 and 10?

They wouldn't, that'd be silly.

I wonder if Boston could put together an attractive enough offer.  Maybe something like Sullinger, Bradley, Melo, #16, and future protected pick for #1 and Speights

Speights is expected to decline his player option and seek free agency.

I have no problem with using Melo to get another 1st rounder, but that's about it. Would rather just buy a pick, and keep the other chips for another move.

you can just do that trade after Noel is signed, his salary would be enough to match.

I wouldn't mind getting him for something... 10/5 in 18 minutes is pretty impressive. (20/10 per 36 lol) And he's just entering his prime... the team that locks him up is gonna get a good deal... be Boston please

I see why the Cavs would want to trade this pick.

If you pick Noel, I think you have to trade Thompson.  I don't think Thompson and Noel can coexist offensively unless one develops a legitimate offensive game.  As of right now, both are primarily garbage men who get points through activity and athleticism.  Better to trade Thompson, preferably for a solid SF which is easily the biggest hole on the roster.

Likewise, McLemore doesn't have the size to play SF full-time so you're looking at trading Waiters.  I'm not high on McLemore, but he has more upside and is already a better outside shooter than Waiters.

Would rather have Monroe and LA over Noel or any other prospect in this draft.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
Not sure if salaries work:

CLE sends Waiters (possibly Varejao)

IND sends Granger, Orlando Johnson, #23

CLE then selects McLemore with #1, adding a deadly shooter and good defender to pair next to Irving.  They also get a cheap prospect in Johnson, and another mid-round pick (along with #19 I think) to select a big and probably another wing (depending on who is available).  The key is Granger.  He adds scoring (which CLE desperately needs as Irving is their only option) and he fills their SF void.  He's also on an expiring deal, so CLE will have money to throw at LeBron (potential FA) next summer.  If they do snag LeBron, resigning Granger is also a possibility.

Granger is now a bit redundant with George breaking out at SF, so he can go.  The bring in Waiters, a guy who can come off the bench (his best role, IMO) and score at will.  IND goes through ugly stretches where the offense stagnates, so having a super sub in Waiters would help tremendously.

I like the idea that the Cavs should add Granger (and replace him with LeBron). I'm not sure which trades would make sense. Maybe Indiana would like to pair Hibbert with Thompson?

The Cavs are looking for a scoring forward in any deal for the No. 1 pick in June's draft, according to SI.com's Chris Mannix.
