I thought of Ewing after I started this thread.  He counts as a Boston product in my book, having moved with his family from Jamaica at the age of seven.

So, Ewing, and next is Dana Barros.  You'd think there'd be more players out of New England in general who have been NBA stars.

It'd be nice to see Noel live up to his potential.  Maybe Ricky Ledo, out of Providence, can make his mark as well.  It could end up being a good draft year for New England prospects.

I'm sure there are more if you are talking New England. One coming to mind is Marcus Camby

YA CONNECTICUT!!!

I'll take my all CT team against you guys any day.  ;)

G - Calvin Murphy/John Bagley
G - Michael Adams/Will Solomon
F - Ryan Gomes/Scott Burrell
F - Vin Baker/Rick Mahorn
C - Marcus Camby/Chris Dudly/Mike Gminski

Interesting links to poke around at.

High School (although this can be really skewed and almost like college with the way some of these guys go to prep and boarding schools):

+1....Patrick Ewing's running mate. Saw them play together at the EMass state tourney for CR&L at Revere HS back in the day. (Forget who they dominated though.)

I saw him play too - CR&L played my high school.

I missed the Ewing era by a few years. I didn't know that Robinson and Ewing overlapped at all, actually.

Bob Cousy and Tommy both from Worcester?

Ok sorry I'm really done now. Apologies

Tommy is a New Jersey guy.

I think Noel is from Alabama. I was half paying attention to a Sportscenter feature on him, and it looked like his family is still there, and I'm pretty sure that is where he is rehabbing right now.

From Wikipedia:

"Nerlens Noel was born in Everett, Massachusetts. He attended Everett High School for 1 year before transferring to Tilton School in Tilton, New Hampshire."

Wow Tilton? That crazy.

Matt Bonner!!

Scoonie Penn played in Salem, and I was sure he'd have a great pro career.

Along with Ricky Ledo, we've also got Erik Murphy who is from South Kingstown, RI (my hometown) in this year's draft.  I doubt we've ever had two Rhode Islanders in the draft in the same year.  (I bet Murphy makes it in the NBA as a second round pick in sort of a Kyle Korver specialist role).

I saw the Laimbeer thing.  Apparently, his family didn't stay in Boston long.  According to what I've read, he grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.

TP.  I totally missed the fact that Michael Carter-Williams is a local kid, as well.  Cool, Noel and Carter-Williams, along with Ledo and Murphy from RI in this year's draft.

It's a great year for New England basketball.

Michael Bradley.

Played at Burncoat in Worcester.  Was a freshman on the '98 Kentucky Wildcats that won the national title.  Ended up transferring to Villanova and was drafted by the Toronto Raptors the 1st round.  Bounced around the NBA for 6-7 years.

Barrea went to Northeastern.
Um, Reggie Lewis anyone?  OMG, can't believe this thread went this far without mentioning one of the C's very own.  for shame.  :'(

If we are talking about where players grew up Reggie is from Maryland.

How about Chris Herren from Fall River. Great great high school player.  Too bad he got into drugs.
a number of responses went in the direction of those with ties to Boston.  Reggie belongs on that list.

One of Ewing's assistant high coaches lived in my neighborhood growing up.  Some neighbors saw him walking around a couple times. I never saw him though.
