I'm all for second chances and I hope that T-Will doesn't become another statistic, but he has only himself to blame.  There was no need for him to bring a gun, registered or not, into that situation.  If you feel threatened enough in advance to be carrying, make sure a visitation officer is present, or hire a bodyguard or two.  Heck, I bet he could have called his agent, or the Celtics, or the NBA, and they'd have provided him with some protection.  But he didn't, and regardless of the he-said, she-said nature, there is no denying he has a gun, and that's never going to look good.

So he should bring a bodyguard when he meets his kid, okay

Doesn't excuse the gun he brought, especially in front of his son.

If the perpetrator or the boyfriend had a weapon then I could consider that self defense.

In the long run, there are no other eye witnesses, so T-Will would be looking at either some time, or by the grace of God, a large fine and community service.

I believe it's the "illegal brandishing of a firearm" law, or whatever Washington state calls it.  When you unholster the weapon and step out of the car, it's a crime.

"It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display or draw any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons."

Clearly, the son was alarmed for the safety of others.  I think a pretty reasonable inference can be made that Williams' intent was to intimidate.

Exactly.  What's the point of bringing a gun?  Either for protection, in which case you probably shouldn't be there, or intimidation, which is criminal.  And frankly, if you're going to bring a gun for protection, you're going to let people know you have it, at which point you've gone the route of intimidation anyway.

I'm just glad that no one else had a gun, or that if someone did, it wasn't used.  Things can get out of control quickly when testosterone, adrenaline, and firearms mix.  Things get heated enough on message boards when no one who has a stake in the matter simply talk about it.
