I want to bring Pierce back even if he is slow, the thing is, I think that Pierce needs his role to be changed. We should put Green as our scoring option and have Pierce be a 2nd or 3rd option. He has too much responsibilities at that age and I don't think he can handle that.

I feel like Pierce hasn't really changed much in the past 4 years.

His numbers are pretty identical. We were missing our pg and were a poor rebounding team so he saw those numbers go up and we were missing our pg so you saw his turnovers go up and field goal percentsge tick down.

Nothing earth shattering. When someone has to initiate the teams offense and pretty much bring the ball up the court every time for the majority of the season its not gonna be as pretty.

Pierce throuhhout his career has been somehwhat overlooked and taken for granted. Even in this srage of his career he's still prob a top 5 or 6 small forward

You have 1 more year left on his deal. Unless you get a real good deal I don't see the point in unloading.

Surprised by how many reports there are of Pierce leaving this summer.

I still believe it's a long shot that is anywhere other than Boston. It is just so hard for this team to rebuild properly (in the immediate sense) with all of the contracts currently on the books. It's looking very hard to find any added-value for the team in dumping Pierce.

so just thinking here:
if we waive/cut/amnesty pierce, what are the rules in re-signing him?

he has to go thru waiver process? what if he turns every team down, so he could re-sign for cheaper with Boston? is that possible or would he have to wait a year or some amt. of time??

I think it more likely that pierce asks to leave and the Celtics oblige.

If he will reduce the salary up to 50% is good to have a great veteran player as he is.

You really think so? I guess I could possibly see this in the sense that DA lets him know he is planning on "getting rid of him" and allows Pierce to "choose" to leave.

I'd be pretty surprised if Pierce straight up asked out

Danny could be looking at tanking for next year. Otherwise just waiving him doesn't make much sense.

Unless some trade that I really don't expect suddenly materializes.

Until I "hear" something concrete I think if they are preparing for relocation, it's simply for precautions so they're not caught off guard by having to move at the last minute. I think most NBA families at the end of a contract do the same type of planning just in case.

Pierce had asked out before they got KG and Ray.  He wants to compete

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It sucks to lose him but I don't want him painfully slogging through any kind of rebuilding period either.

Danny is preparing the fanbase for a move that's for sure.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Even if he did ask out then don't you think things have DRASTICALLY changed since then? His bond with the city, Doc, KG, fans. He's won a championship and a finals mvp, has repeatedly talked about players playing for 1 franchise and pretty much brags about it. He is everythig Boston at this point. Pats, Sox, Bruins fan.

I could just go on and on. A lot has changed since then even if he possibly asked out at one point

If Pierce really wants to remain a Celtic, then he'll agree to restructure his contract so he gets paid less and the Celts can use that money on another free agent.

If he's expecting to get 15 million and start again next year, then in the words of Arnold, hasta la vista baby.

Pierce has repeatedly hinted that if the C's stop trying to contend he'd play out his career elsewhere. As he should, he still have plenty of basketball left.

1. Pierce can't restructure his contract to take less.

2. If Pierce's salary is off the books, that opens up exactly zero money to use on other free agents.

3. Pierce is expecting only one of four things to happen because that is all that can happen:

   1. To be traded
   2. For the Celtics release him and only pay the guaranteed portion of this contract which is $5 million which will remain on the salary cap for this season
   3. To be amnestied and receive his full $15 million contract
   4. To has his contract be picked up and be playing for the Celtics.
