I mean, TA did want to get out from under the shadow of Pierce and Ray, but I still believe had Danny offered the 3rd year on the contract, TA would have stayed.

Not one of Danny's smarter decisions.  It angered me then, and still has me angry now.

danny was trying to align all the contracts to expire at the same time to go for a superstar free agent in 2010. he later offered tony allen the 3rd year but it was too late i believe.

I would have to think that after the Celtics won their last title that somewhere in the back of Ainge's mind he must have been thinking we will need a player who can guard Lebron. We had two! Posey and Allen.

I love Tony Allen and was sick to my stomach when we didn't re-sign him.  I thought it was a huge blunder then and even more so now.

yea if I remember correctly, he wanted a bigger role and didn't want to live in PP's shadows...we did offer him that much money. It was either to start him or let him go.

Yep. Also, we held his Bird rights, so what we paid Daniels is pretty inconsequential -- we had all the ability to sign Allen if he wanted to stay.
