Josh Smith would be a good 4th option on a team. 3rd option is certainly a stretch.

He's basically like Shawn Marion or Gerald Wallace in their prime. Prerty good guys but certainly not someone to help build your franchise around.

Shawn Marion was a great 3rd option for the Suns though.

Yeah, I think Josh Smith would be fine as a 3rd option.  He scores 16-17 points each year with decent efficiency even if his shot selection isn't great.  He's been the 2nd option for that Hawks team for a while and they're still a decent offensive team.  He's definitely not ideal as a 2nd option, though.

Arguably 2nd option. Also arguably 3rd and 4th option.

Joe Johnson, Al Horford, Jamal crawford. And lots and lots of playoff losses

Do you think Shawn Marion or J smith would be a type of guy you want as the cornerstone of your franchise at near max money? I don't.

Plus again Marion was arguably the 3rd option for some of those years. And you were probably the highest scoring team in the league and don't really habe a ton to show for it

At least Shawn Marion was an all star and helped get his team somewhere in the playoffs.

Just look at last year alone. They had Homecourt. We were missing Rondo game 2. They were primed to finally beat us and still couldn't.

I mean it isn't all on J Smith but it is pretty telling that HE SAT OUT the end of game 2 and all of game 3 with a boo boo.

Not worth franchise type money.  I just question his drive.  Reminds me of the motivation or lack of or Gerald Henderson.  Always good for 15 points some steals and rebounds,  but not able or willing to lay it all out each and every game to win it all........ he needs to be with somebody like KG, Kobe, CP3 .   Josh needs to be led and spoon fed a championship .

A sprained knee isn't a boo boo, its a serious injury. They also didn't have a healthy Al Horford.

Plus its not like the C's blew them out, it was a close 6 game series that turned on a few games that were decided by slight margins.

4th option?  Now that's a stretch.  An All Star isn't a 4th option on a team.  3rd?  Yeah I can see that.  The 4th option on the Heat is Ray Allen and he's a far better player than Ray is at this point in their careers...

His career averages show to me that he's not a max player but that's what he wants.  He's a good #3 guy.  I'm not one wanting us to get him unless he comes reasonable (which he won't in a S & T) and or his contract demands aren't excessive (which they will be).

He thinks he's worth more thna he is, but it only takes one team and from what I hear the Mavs really like him as do the Rockets. and both have the salary cap room to do something with him if Howard doesn't work for them.  ...

Shawn Marion in his prime was a potential 20-10 guy whose ability to be a defensive anchor was hidden by playing for Mike D'Antoni.

Shawn Marion in his prime may not be the guy you want as your #1 option on offense, but his versatility and ability to defend multiple positions makes him a guy who I would be willing to have as part of the core you build a franchise around.

So u would pay max or near max money?

Isn't that the real meat of the conversation?

I'm pretty sure whatever anyome tjinks is "fair" money for josh smith wil see hat he is going to get a whole hell of a lot more

When was Josh Smith an all star?

What is a "sprained knee" doesn't seem too serious if he took 1-2 days off and proceeded toplay 3 more games in a row at about 40 mmin a night. How can you not fimd that ridiculously soft?

I seemed to remember another guy playing on a sprained MCL during that series as well, Paul Pierce.

Smith would be excellent as a 3rd option. If you look at the #3 options around the league, you'll see how favorably he compares to them (and how ridiculous the notion of him being a 4th option is).

Bosh, Ginobli, Amar'e, Ibaka, Thompson, Conley, Hibbert/West, Boozer, etc. are the best 3rd options in the NBA. When defense is factored in, JS is on their level and is asking for a similar salary (except for Klay (who's still on a rookie contract), they're making over 11M to Max).

If the C's can get him without taking away from the nucleus of the team, it'd be an excellent addition. Green and Bass/Lee (possible 1st rounder) for Smith and that's a serious title contender. For Pierce? I'd have to strongly consider it.
