I'd gladly take a 10rpg All-Defensive 7-footer...

I agree. What we need going forward is a legit rebounder in the Chandler style but who also is a defensive anchor.

However I might lean towards the scorer if we end up building around Rondo, AB, Green, and Sully. They need a consistent scorer
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Since defense and rebounding is all about effort and heart, if a big is willing to put the work already, he can learn to score.  If he is not willing to put the effort into defense, scoring will be  immaterial anyway.

What about guys like Reggie Evans?

I think all NBA players are artists that excel in certain kinds of art. Just because someone is a good abstract artist doesn't mean he's a good realism artist.

In general I prefer a rebounding/defensive big, however this team has been offensively inept for way too long. Adding a player that could get us post buckets is exactly what our offense needs.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Scoring. Demarcus Cousins, Lamarcus Aldridge.

This team will go nowhere with the current group of scoring options.

Green needs an open court, Pierce and KG are dependent on getting open looks more and more, and Rondo will be an uncertain item after his injury.

Cousins is my favoured option because we get a post scorer who will force defences to have to collapse.

Offensive player at this point.  The team defense is already strong.

With Rondo, maybe we don't need "scoring" as much as "someone who can consistently finish around the rim".

Only Jeff Green did that (and Sully to some degree). Green also only started doing that after Rondo went down.

Here is hoping Sully & Shav  the   S&S crew can reintroduce the term "REBOUND" to the Celtics next season.  Two guys that mean business on the board.

Add Milsap and/or Varejeo   to the Celtics......with what Rondo, KG and Twill can bring and we might not lie at the bottom of the rebounding heap.

If we had any form of a reliable defensive big man, Bogut or an Osik, plus a serviceable backup point who could set the offense like a Jarrett Jack...we would have been much more better equipped to deal with the injuries to Rondo and Sully.

When those two guys went down, we really had no one else step in to make up for their losses.

T-Will, Jamal Crawford did the best they could to run the show when they played, but they only did it in spurts and not every game consistently.

For me it all depends on just how good the players are at doing either skill. Also, there are extremely few guys who are truly good at just one side of the game, and terrible at the other side.

Example: Howard is a defensive force, but he can average over 20ppg. Dirk in 2011 was an average defender at worst. David Lee, while a dbl-dbl machine able to pour in 20 isn't a defensive liability.

Tyson Chandler is a great example of the type of guy you're talking about, so is Larry Sanders. But for the offensive version, Im really not sure who you'd peg.

Al Jefferson, Amare come to mind.

On the other hand when you look at this roster, we shouldn`t be struggling to score nearly as badly as we are. That can be improved significantly by consistency. If, for example, a situation came up where Pierce, Terry, and Green were ALL nailing their shots and Green was aggressively taking to the paint in the same game, which I can`t remember happening, that would be seriously problematic offence to deal with for most teams. A back up big that stops opponents going out of their way to attack our rim when KG sits is a bigger problem, at least in my view.

No inside game and lack of steady 3pt threats makes it hard to run an offense.

Aside from Pierce, our 3pt threats were distintly average to worse.  Lee was supposed to be knock-down on the corner 3?  Terry was supposed to be a threat from 3, but was/is streaky.

The title roster worked so well because every player was prototypical for their position, shooting was great, including off the bench (Posey and House).  The floor was open.  No so much this year.

Need to straighten that out this offseason by adding a post presence AND knock-down shooters.

Would you rather have a go-to post player that will reduce the number of times the offense stagnates (but is an average defender), or a big that will rebound well and provide elite toughness down low but is limited offensively?

For our team, I'd want the consistent post player.  The biggest issue on our team is the lack of easy buckets.  A post-scorer gets more open looks for our jump shooters, and of course scores high-efficiency buckets down low.

Look how good our team looked with Shaq.  Now, imagine that level of production for 36 minutes per game or so.

Plus, I think this hypothetical center's average defense would look a lot better next to KG.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
In this day and age 3 pointers are becoming more prominent.

Unfortunately, the Celtics don't have consistent shooters. I'm hoping AB/Lee can become those two consistent shooters.

Get a low post big to help with the rebounds, and some easy points.
