I like Al Jefferson to play alongside KG. Rebounding and a prolific low post scorer? That would be just awesome to have despite his defensive woes, which I really have little worries about in all honesty.

KG doesn't stay if you get rid of PP, end of story, so what you suggest wouldn't be an option...
He might if you add Jefferson and Reddick. He doesn't want to go out on a stinking team, but Rondo/Reddick/Green/KG/Jefferson wouldn't stink.

In fact, I think, you could swap Jefferson and Smith in that lineup and he'd also stay.

OTOH, if Pierce is gone and Danny *doesn't* bring in *two* good players, then...yeah, KG will be gone, too.

No he doesn't.  There's no chance he would stay if Paul leaves.  Adding Al and JJ wouldn't make you a contender and that is what KG would want if he can't play with Pierce.  He will choose his situation and it won't be Boston if Pierce goes.  The ties to the franchise will be gone, Doc, Ray and PP.

Paul Milsap
Isn't Milsap redundant on a team that has both Bass and Sullinger?

What are you saying, that there's such a thing as too many useful players because it's not like they would ever all be injured at the same time?

Amass the talent, then figure out playing time or possible trades later.  It's the same principle as taking the best player available in the draft.  Bass should be a decent fit for any team with playoff hopes that needs big man depth and perimeter shooting. (How many possible playoff teams don't fit that description?)  Sullinger could be the young player used to acquire the next star in the way that Al Jefferson was used to trade for Garnett.

Rebuilding doesn't have to mean clearing the decks and starting over, but sometimes you have a transitional period where the pieces don't fit together perfectly.  You should be willing to accept an imbalanced roster while you are are trying to assemble a new core.  Once you fix the core (and that might take a year), then start adjusting the role players to fit around the core.

The answer to your question is no.

If we have to trade Pierce. Big IF! Then I hope we would pursue Josh Smith over Big Al.

I would choose Big Al, but also take into consideration I believe J Smooth would be more expensive.

However, I like Bigs and I like guys who can shoot.  J Smooth is a terrible shooter who has a horrible motion, yes he can sky like you wouldnt believe, but I like skills and Big AL has better skills to me.

If I had to pick, Jefferson. Ideally, neither.

Honestly, with the money we'd have to throw at either of them, we could be paying Millsap and Hickson COMBINED instead.

Josh Smith for me. Al Jefferson is a horrible defender.

I'll take the skilled, legit big man every time.  The inside game is too important.

I know the question is .. if you can land only one but ... I think danny can split the exception and add pieces to it like terry and part of the exception and lee and a part of the exception plus whatever else is need to make the deal work and end up with both Smith and Jefferson.

That would give us a killer line-up & no more small ball ... lol

Can't split an exception or add anything to it.

2012-2013 stats

Al Jefferson
17.8ppg, 9.2Rpg, 1blk, 1stl, 2ast, 77%FT, .494fg%, 1.3TO, 33min
Efficiency 21.33

Josh Smith
17.5Ppg, 8.4Rpg, 1.8Blk, 1.1Stl, 4.2Ast, 2.97To, 57%FT, .30%3P, .465%FG 35min
Efficiency 16.33%

That's quite a discrepancy in efficiency... I would also be weary of having two players, Rondo and Smith, who shoot 50% from the line and 30% from 3. The Celtics are really in need of a big for rebounding and inside scoring. Josh Smith does not fit this need. Smith is really a 3 who can play 4 in certain circumstances, much like Jeff Green can. Considering skill set and salary, and I will take Jeff Green over Josh Smith any day..

Josh Smith in a heartbeat
Smith is not the best freethrow shooter though, but Jefferson is way too buttery soft on defense
