I know the question is .. if you can land only one but ... I think danny can split the exception and add pieces to it like terry and part of the exception and lee and a part of the exception plus whatever else is need to make the deal work and end up with both Smith and Jefferson.

That would give us a killer line-up & no more small ball ... lol

Can't split an exception or add anything to it.

are you sure you can't split a trade exception b/c i think you can, and you can def add picks to it and even players but to get the exception it can only involve a single player....maybe.....someone will correct me soon lol

even if we could split it still be tough to get both and that lineup cant shoot at all lol but would be GIGANTIC! lol

Lol I know this will not be a popular suggestion, but if we were to land Smith it might be a good idea to look at a big who can pick and pop and spread the floor.

Andrea Bargnani might not be that tough to get. He is not good on defense but hopefully Smith's presence along with AB and Rondo could help. Offensively he could compliment Rondo, Green, and Smith.

If he was seriously healthy I would take Bynum over both Big Al and Smoove.

(This assumes KG is gone with Pierce)

You can split a trade exception, but any piece of the trade exception can only be used to get one player.  If you have a $10m trade exception, you can use it to get a $10m player or split it up to get two $5m players, but you can't combine with a $5m player or a $5m trade exception to get a $15m player.

No.  A trade exception can be split, but you cannot add additional salary to the trade exception.  So there is absolutely no way that the trade exception could be split to acquire both Big Al and Smith.

It might be possible to work out a three team trade in which the Celtics use up the trade exception while sending one player to Atlanta and one player to Utah to get Smith and Jefferson.

But you have to make simultaneous trades.  You can't combine part of the exception and Courtney Lee to trade for Jefferson then use the rest of the exception and some other player to trade for Smith a week later.

Bargnani isn't just "might not be that tough to get". The Raptors are practically begging teams to take him off their hands. I've also thought about the notion of bringing him to Boston, but he's just such a terrible financial investment. If he didn't make eight digits, I'd be a lot more ecstatic on him.

As for Bynum, he's either going to speed up a team's rebuilding, or set it back by a good five years or so. Given his character issues in addition to the injury risk, I wouldn't want to invest in him.
