Paul Milsap

Yuck. Rich mans Bradon Bass
He is a lot better than that, but he isn't better than Jefferson or Smith.  Now if Jefferson or Smith are at 16 million a year and Millsap is at like 11 million a year, I think you might have to consider him, but there needs to be a big financial incentive to downgrade to Millsap's talent level.

Smith.

Jefferson gets too much respect here.

per 36, Jefferson has basically been a 20/10 player since he left Boston

The problem is Jefferson is not nearly as good on offense as people like to think he is. Everyone goes on about how good he is in the post, but when you look he shoots at a BELOW AVERAGE percentage from the post, the block, and in the paint.

He "looks" like he's a good scorer because he has some aesthetically nice moves, but he actually is below the league average at converting those moves into points. He takes far more shot attempts than his paltry shooting percentages should allow for.

He is certainly overrated on the offensive end. That said, he is a good rebounder and a decent defender. He just is not the post threat everyone makes him out to be - any smart team will gladly let Jefferson shoot his team out of a game from the post.

Now, Millsap is no offensive juggernaut, but he's efficient from multiple spots on the floor. All of his shooting splits are at or above the league average (except from beyond the arc, but Jefferson can't hit that shot consistently either). Defensively and on the boards, he is about on par with Jefferson.

Pierce
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Big Al is better scorer and rebounder . Would love to see what prime Rondo and prime Big Al could do , with Rondo's passing ability , and big al's post moves !

Jeff Green does a lot of what Josh Smith can do .

Plus I want to see what Sully can develop into

Rondo
Bradley
Green
Sully
Big Al

has potential to be a 50+ win team with a good bench IMO

Yea that's a pretty intriguing team. You're forgetting somebody! *cough* Kevin Garnett *cough*
Yeah, that was my thought, too.

Rondo, ??? <--Schroder or Larkin?

Reddick for MLE or S&T, ???

Green, ??? <--Snell or Rice?

KG, Sully, Bass

Al, KG, Melo

Use picks and Bradley, Lee and/or Terry for backup guards and a backup wing. Hopefully, Bradley is kept, but I'd deal him if I had to to get Reddick in Boston.

I like that lineup a lot.

Jefferson is hardly decent defensively. He can't guard a chair.

I'd take anyone named Smith, including Kate, over this bizarre fascination with Big Al No D.

Agreed.  Al's defense is mediocre in the post and awful in the pick and roll (only the most common play in the NBA).  You can't win with a guy like that playing major minutes.  I like Josh Smith's defense and his versatility on offense and I think you could win with him as your third or fourth best player (if he's paid accordingly). However, he's not good enough on either end to justify the contract he's likely going to get

I like Al Jefferson to play alongside KG. Rebounding and a prolific low post scorer? That would be just awesome to have despite his defensive woes, which I really have little worries about in all honesty.

KG doesn't stay if you get rid of PP, end of story, so what you suggest wouldn't be an option...
He might if you add Jefferson and Reddick. He doesn't want to go out on a stinking team, but Rondo/Reddick/Green/KG/Jefferson wouldn't stink.

In fact, I think, you could swap Jefferson and Smith in that lineup and he'd also stay.

OTOH, if Pierce is gone and Danny *doesn't* bring in *two* good players, then...yeah, KG will be gone, too.

Isn't Milsap redundant on a team that has both Bass and Sullinger?

Hate to say it, but that might be the right answer.

Millsap is considerably better than Bass, and Sullinger is an unknown commodity with a back issue at this point.

This was tongue-in-cheek, obviously -- I don't think I really want either of the two players discussed in this thread. Jefferson is not good enough, and Smith is a poor fit with Rondo.
